1. See the Birthplace of New Urbanism in Seaside

Seaside was the first town built under the principles of New Urbanism, a design movement built around walkable streets, front porches, and a human-scaled town center rather than car-first suburbs.
Architects Andrés Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk planned the town starting in 1981, and it became the template that Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach, and WaterColor all later borrowed from.
Seaside is also instantly recognizable to movie fans as the filming location for The Truman Show. Several spots around the town square, including Modica Market, still look almost exactly as they did on screen.
Even a short walk through the grid of pastel cottages gives a clear sense of why this one small town changed how much of the rest of 30A was built.

8. Pay Respects at the Historic Gulf Cemetery

The Historic Gulf Cemetery has been in use for more than a century, with roughly 800 to 900 burials, including Civil War veterans, spread across 40 acres of shaded, hilly ground. This is one of the few spots on 30A that connects directly to the region’s history from well before most of the beach towns around it existed.
It’s still an active cemetery today, cared for by a local nonprofit rather than a government agency, so visitors should be respectful of their surroundings.
9. Spot Draper Lake’s Steel Bridge from the Timpoochee Trail

Draper Lake, one of several rare coastal dune lakes clustered around Blue Mountain Beach, sits inside a private, gated community, so it isn’t open to walk-in visitors.
However, the view from the Timpoochee Trail, a flat, paved path that’s popular for walking, running, and cycling, is enough to appreciate it without needing access to the neighborhood itself.
