Tiny Cabin Retreat on the Big Lake | Cabin in Herbster

1 Bedroom Cabin in Herbster
Welcome to Apricirty: the perfect tiny cabin! It's newly built, with a sleeping loft, a full kitchen, and a gorgeous view of Lake Superior! Step inside and you’ll discover an uncluttered space with clean lines, thoughtful decor, and that amazing lake view: It's the perfect place for finding your balance and getting back to essentials.
Your host runs Bark Point Ventures, a vacation rental management & concierge company that specializes in properties on Lake Superior's South Shore. We're nearby and we're available whenever our guests need us! Our passion is ensuring guests experience the magic of what we feel is one of the most amazing places in the world.
The South Shore is truly a place to get away from it all, but not so far from modern conveniences that getting food and gas feels like a chore. Our web guide, plus the printed guidebook, contain tons of tips on all the incredible outdoor activities around here, as well as local arts, plus places to get groceries, dine out, grab a drink, etc. This is truly a year-round destination, whether you enjoy outdoor adventure, local cuisine, art, or simply the company of friends & family in one of the most beautiful locations in the northern U.S.
The cabin is just a few minutes from Herbster, where you'll find a gorgeous public beach, a restaurant, a small general store, and a post office. It's also just a few minutes from Cornucopia, which has a delightful general store/market, awesome coffee shop, bar/restaurant, and marina. Port Wing is about fifteen minutes away, with some more fabulous beaches, a convenience store where you can buy smoked fish (talk about convenient!) and an excellent coffee shop that roasts its own beans. Bayfield is about 35 minutes away, as is Washburn (where you’ll find the largest grocery store in the area). Ashland is about 45 minutes away, with a natural foods co-op, Wal-Mart, and a wider range of shops). Superior & Duluth are an hour and a bit away.
Get ready for tiny cabin living! 'Apricity' is the warmth of the sun, and you’ll find comfort and warmth here year-round. The cabin is at the end of a long private drive, and before you even reach the it you’ll see a sparkle of light to tell you that you’re getting close to the water—Bark Bay, a beautiful inlet off of Lake Superior.
Step into the cabin and we guarantee you’ll be drawn to the sliding glass doors that look out toward the water. They anchor the common room, where you’ll find a comfortable sofa that pulls out into a queen bed. It’s in just the right place to watch a show on the smart TV…or to watch the fire in the gas fireplace on a chilly evening…or (our favorite) to watch the light off the lake through the trees. This is tiny style at its best: everything you need in a space that's small enough to be cozy but never feels cluttered.
The kitchen is small but it’s efficient, with a galley layout that maximizes space. You’ve got a state-of-the-art cooktop and oven (full sized!) at your disposal, plus a microwave and a selection of small appliances to help you whip up a South Shore feast! (And remember that we’ll deliver local foods, from veggies to meat and fish and all sorts of things in between, to the cabin—just ask before you check in.) You’ll find dining space for four tucked in under the stairs in the common room.
Around the corner from the kitchen you’ll enter the bathroom, with a full-size shower and a gorgeous sink and vanity. You can even adjust the color of the ring light around the vanity mirror, warm or cool, so you can look your best, even first thing in the morning.
Head up the stairs and you’ll find the sleeping loft, quite possibly the best part of Apricity. There’s a comfy queen bed waiting for you up there under the cathedral ceiling. Check out the stone textures on the wall above the bed, and don’t forget to turn on the accent lighting for the best effect (it’s also super soothing as you’re drifting off to sleep). You can also dial in the perfect vibe by adjusting the color of the light on the headboard. And whatever you do don’t forget to turn around and look through the windows: from the loft you’ve got a great perspective to see that gorgeous South Shore light as it glints off the water and shines through the trees.
Do you prefer some outdoor fun? Apricity is good for that, too! By the time summer rolls around, we’ll have a sweet little patio outside of the sliding doors, and some paths down toward the water. Inside or out, Apricity is the perfect place to find your way to balance here on the South Shore.
Due to the lack of public transportation and the distance between towns/amenities, a car is pretty much essential. But, on the plus side, traffic is not a concept we have up here!
