Summary: We stayed in Pitillas only one night, although I would have loved to stay longer. After fighting the crowds in San Sebastián and Barcelona, it was nice to get to a town where every single person we passed said, "hola" and smiled. There's not much here, but it is very relaxing and a good base for day trips in the area. The house itself is gorgeous! I believe it was mostly built in the 19th century and Javier, the owner, has put a lot of work into restoring it. You will feel like you're living in your own little castle. We had dinner one night on our enormous terrace, watching the sun set over the fields. The house is well-equipped, with modern kitchen, modern bathrooms and nice decor. There are some little things that didn't work quite right, like the window shades and some leakage out of the shower in master bedroom, but I get the feeling we are some of the first to stay here and that Javier will have these issues fixed in no time. He also needs to get Wifi installed, which is probably the house's biggest problem. Javier is a total sweetheart, spending more than half an hour with us, giving a tour of the house (there are many rooms still being finished) and telling us about its history. He's gradually finishing off all the rooms, which will make an already incredible place even better. I'd definitely recommend this house for families, couples looking for a romantic getaway or really, anyone looking to get a bit off the beaten, touristy track.
