Positive: Very cute apartment with a lot of homey touches. Great communication from hosts. -- both via Booking and personally while I was there. VERY comfy bed, towels. Squeaky clean and modern. Kitchen well stocked (although they could have salt and pepper and paper towels). Nice touch: A packet containing soap pods for the clothes washer and dishwasher. Lots of light. A/c in living room and bedroom (although bedroom didn't work while I was there). Easy check-in with keypad entrance from street and lockbox with apartment keys. Texted instructions were clear. Best part is the location! Apartment is in Campo de Ourique, a non-touristy, mostly flat neighborhood with the charming Jardim da Parada -- great for people-watching over coffee and a burger at the quiosque. Tram 28 starts in this neighborhood -- about a 10-min walk away. The CdO Mercado is the best in Lisboa with both fresh and prepared foods. (The steak counter is particularly tasty -- and affordable). Fantastic all-you-can-eat sushi at Hayaci in Campolide is about a 15-min walk. Around the corner from the apartment is Cafe Tram 28. I had an incredible salad of watermelon, pesto, mozzarella and rocket drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette. Catty-corner from the apartment are two small neighborhood grocery stores. Half-hour walk to Gulbenkian Art Museum (features musical concerts as well). Half-hour walk to Rato and the Amalia Rodrigues House. 20-min walk to Jardim da Estrella and the Basilica.
Negative: This is a perfect place for a single traveler. It is small and a loft, so the ceilings are quite sloped. I am only 5'6", and I was challenged. I can't imagine how a much taller person would avoid constant head bumps. It's a single bed -- a second person would have to sleep in the living room and that would be pretty cramped, in my opinion. The entire building is vacation rentals, so there might be other apartments on lower floors more suitable for 2 people. But I look forward to returning if I'm traveling solo.
