Positive: Clean, nice facilities including very functional kitchen and bathroom, plenty of space to relax or to separate activities. The unit was in an apartment building which was very clean and well maintained, felt safe with door code entries to the building and unit. We liked that it was in a “grittier” part of town; Walkable to many things such as the baseball stadium, Mt Vernon, Harborplace, and further afield if you like to walk. Some very nice restaurants within walking distance and a supermarket with good variety (expensive on par with Whole Foods) also within walking distance (2 blocks) Convenient to public transportation and easy to get to family and friends in Catonsville, Columbia, and DC. Enjoyed meeting some of the other residents of the building. The parking (which is a block away) felt very secure in a garage. It was pretty easy to bring the car around to the entry door in the alley to load and unload things and carry them up the stairs. Natasha and Tiffany were generally very responsive and helpful and seemed very nice. Were stayed for 3 weeks and it was a very comfortable and convenient “home base” for all the things we wanted/needed to do.
Negative: Middle of summer in Baltimore is very hot and humid and the only AC was a portable unit in the bedroom - very effective but noisy. The living room, even with various fans (including an Arctic Air cooler) pretty much stayed at 85 F the entire time. The building also had no central AC so common spaces including the 4 stories of stairs from the outside to the unit were like an oven. We soon got used to it though. Some downsides: Not very accessible if you have physical disabilities and most definitely not if you use a wheelchair. The front door with a ramp and convenient to the elevators didn’t open for some reason (the residents of the building said it was broken). So the only way to get in would be to have someone get in the side door in the alley and walk over to the front door to open it for you. The parking garage only has spaces on levels 2 and 3 but no elevator to get to them. Trash - not in the unit but in the city in general. Rats the size of large kittens have a filed day. The first time I had to go down the basement of the building to get rid of our trash it was super creepy and smelled terrible. Then someone cleaned it up and it wasn’t as bad. Some people might not like the inner city neighborhood - if you’re looking for a quiet peaceful vacation where you can forget that poverty, homelessness, racism, etc exist this place is NOT for you. However if you want to experience Charm City - this is definitely the best place to do it. Washed and drier - the drier didn’t work and we were promised someone would come fix it but they never did so we used the laundromat. There are a few that are very efficient and not expensive about 10 min drive away. Not super convenient but it worked. So basically if you have physical disabilities, don’t want to deal with the unpleasant parts of city life, or can’t stand the heat and humidity don’t stay here.
