Patrizia's retreat is located at castel cellesi (200 souls). Castel Cellesi is a subset of Bagnoregio, near Viterbo in the Tuscia aerea (the Etruscan Italy) at the crossroad of three different regions: Tuscany, Umbria and Latium. The beauty of Lazio is often obscured by the fame of rome (120 km. from Castel Cellesi) but the region has a lot to offer besides the eternal city: a wealth of art, history, archaeology, culinary traditions and culture. Especially the area north of rome, around the city of Viterbo (28 km. From Castel Cellesi) is full of great destinations, such as:
Viterbo itself with the Pope's palace, the Cathedral Church, medieval quarters and city walls.
Near viterbo the 'hot spa' Terme dei Papi.
Orvieto (km. 27 from castel cellesi) with its colourful, spectacular cathedral Church,
Medieval streets and palaces.
Civita di Bagnoregio 'the dying city' atop a pinnacle in a vast canyon ruled by wind and erosion. It is connected by a footbridge to the town of Bagnoregio. Civita is an artist's dream, a town in the nude.
Bolsena lake with a lot of small towns and villages around it. One of the best known is Bolsena, because of the so called 'miracle of Bolsena' which took place in the town itself back in the middle ages.
Montefiascone also giving onto the lake is very famous for its churches but also for its excellent wine called est! Est! Est
Around the lake many very well equipped beaches for sunbathing. Also swimming and sailing are possible.
Tarquinia, Tuscania, Vetralla - Etruscan sites, tombs and museums
Assisi, Todi, Siena and Florence are also easily reachable.
Hiking is possible around Castel Cellesi : well sign-posted trails and paths
Patrizia's retreat at Castel Cellesi is a secluded place, but supermarkets and good restaurants are dotted around the area all within a 15 minutes drive. Private car is highly recommended. Don't be concened with driving around the area as it is very well sign-posted and empty of traffic.

THE “LIVE NATIVITY SCENE” AT CIVITA DI BAGNOREGIO
Something unforgettable !
The Nativity scene is one of the most popular and favourite Christmas traditions in Italy. But some villages and communities go a step over: they spend weeks and months to create fantastic live Nativity scenes featuring real people and real animals too.
One of the most famous “Live Nativities” is featured every year, between Christmas time and January 6th (Epiphany), at Civita di Bagnoregio near Viterbo (Latium). The village is the perfect set for such an event: it's a very small town suspended on the top of a rocky cliff eroded by winds and rain. It's connected with land through a footbridge which seems to be suspended in the air too. An ancient gate introduces people into the heart of the village where a narrow allyway takes to a XIII century Church facing the main square. Medieval streets, very old stone buildings, porches, terraces and arches properly decorated for the occasion, live people wearing ancient costumes, animals make you feel like you were at the first Christmas in Betlemme.
The first “Live Nativity” was featured at Greccio, (a small town in Umbria – 80 Km. from Castel Cellesi far away) in the year 1233 and organized by St. Francis of Assisi after a trip to the Holy Land where he visited the real birthplace of Jesus. Francis thought that believers could better comprehend the celebration of Christmas if exposed to the very setting where the miraculous event occurred.
