The Vista Valley Guest house is a well-built home situated on an elite, wooded 6 acres overlooking a valley. The home is located right up the road from historic Ester, the Malemute Saloon, and the popular Ester Community Park with a summer playground, soccer field, and winter ice skating. It's just 10 minutes from the University of Alaska and 20 minutes to downtown Fairbanks and all the Golden Heart City has to offer.
The kitchen, with cherrywood cabinets, is amply equipped with all the tools you need to cook for a group. The propane BBQ on the deck is a great way to enjoy the Alaska summer and the wonderful nature views. Wake up to the aroma of incredible coffee with the Nespresso fully-automatic espresso machine. For coffee purists, we also provide a burr grinder and a traditional coffee machine. A highchair that straps onto a kitchen chair is available on request.
Catch up on laundry while in Fairbanks. Vista Valley Guest House has a front-loading washer and dryer available for guests and the detergent is provided.
There are four bedrooms, with a total of 2 queen beds, 2 full bed, a twin trundle, and an extra rollaway cot, so there will be plenty of room for parents, kids, grandparents, or a group of friends traveling together. We provide linens and towels for each of the beds and the three full bathrooms, based off of the guest count. The bedrooms have room darkening curtains, but the rest of the rooms do not have curtains. A Pack’n’Play for infants is available on request.
The sitting room with soapstone wood stove invites you to curl up with a good book from off the bookshelves, and the living room has a flat screen TV and Blu-Ray player, with a small selection of movies provided. Public television is spotty at best, but does sometimes come through. There is also some toys for young children available upon request.
While not listed as an amenity, there is usually WiFi available at the house to keep you in touch with friends and family, but since the Covid pandemic began the provider has become somewhat unreliable and with extremely slow response time, so it had to be removed as an amenity. They are the only provider available at my location.
In the summer: it’s an Alaska house in the woods, so there will be bugs. All the windows have screens, but leaving either door open will invite them in to join you on your vacation. The yard and other parts of the property have been mostly left to grow in their natural state. Mowing happens irregularly, so you may find a gorgeous growth of wildflowers and grass upon your arrival.
Winter: in-floor slab heat keeps the house nice and cozy, and the front porch and walkway to get into the house will be shoveled in between guests to keep the snow from building up there. A snow shovel will be available for guest use when a large amount of snow falls during their stay. Plowing happens regularly when snow falls, but the company controls their schedule, so there may be periods that you are snowed in before they can get to the house, so please plan ahead and pay attention to the weather forecast. Lodging Base Rates: $275/ night Monday to Thursday/$350/night Friday to Sunday, for up to four people, $25 each additional person per night, plus 8% bed tax. Some holidays have higher rates, but if you are booking through a holiday (such as December 23rd through December 27th for example) a special offer to keep the nightly pricing at the regular non-holiday rate can be sent upon request.
