Welcome to my home - north of West Nanjing Road !
My apartment is situated at the intersection of Nan Hui Road and West Beijing Road , in the heart of Jing’an District, Shanghai’s cultural and business center.
This elegant pre-war apartment features classic 11ft ceilings and excellent sunlight. Compared to average old lane historical apartment in shanghai, my place is big. It has close to 1100 sq. ft of living space.
For added openness, I kept the living room wide open instead of converting it into a 2-bedroom unit. Currently It has one master bedroom w/shower, one large living room with working space and a windowed balcony / kitchen that affords ample counter space for a budding chef.
Gorgeous refinished oak wood flooring can be found throughout the apartment. For families that have more than 2 members, sofa bed in the living room can be used as a back up sleeping area. Bunker bed is also available upon request.
Location wise my place is close to Nan Jing Road, about 5 mins walk.
Nanjing Road
Nanjing Road is the earliest and most prosperous shopping street in in Shanghai dating back to the 1840s. Regarded as "the first commercial street in China", Nanjing Road offers all-in-one shopping malls, gorgeous restaurants and spectacular night views.
Nanjing Road occupies a surprising length of 5.5 kilometers. It's further divided into two parts, namely Nanjing Rd. (E) and Nanjing Rd. (W), with the Xizang Rd. (M) as the bountry line. Nanjing Road, in the eyes of Shanghai locals, simply refers to the Nanjing Rd. (E). In 1999, the brand new 1,033-meter-long Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street was completed also at the Nanjing Rd. (E) section. Now the pedestrian street has become the most welcomed commercial area around Shanghai and the most famous among thousands of pedestrian streets in China.

Nanjing Road is also of historical significance, playing an important role in the development of the city. After the Opium War (1839-1842), Shanghai became a treaty port. And the Nanjing Road was a main road to reach the Bund, so it was important. The road was first a British Concession, then the International Settlement. Several standout companies established by Chinese businessmen later nestled their stores at the buoyant Nanjing Road, for instance, Wing On Department Store and East Asia Hotel (developed from Sincere Company ).

On Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street there are trolleys for tourists to ride on. Tourists can walk along Nanjing Road for 5 to 10 minutes and reach the Bund, which is another famous attraction that tourists do not want to miss for their Shanghai travel. To reach Nanjing Road, visitors can take Shanghai metro line 2 and get off at Nanjing Road Station.

Shanghai cuisine, also known as Hu Cai, includes two styles--Benbang cuisine and Haipai cuisine. Benbang cuisine, literally meaning "local cuisine", is the traditional family style cuisine. Haipai cuisine, literally meaning "all-embracing cuisine" is derived from the cosmopolitan culture.
Benbang cuisine and Haipai cuisine have many things in common: First, they make great use of fresh meat, chicken, vegetables and especially various marine ingredients such as fish, shrimps and crabs. They are basically pork dumplings with hot broth inside them. The best of these soup dumplings are certainly Xie Fen Xiao Long Bao which are filled with crab meat / roe and minced pork, and the broth tastes even better with the tint of the crab meat / roe. Shanghai locals usually go to Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant only for the featured crab meat soup dumplings.

In addition, due to its location among the rivers, lakes, and canals of the Yangtze Delta, locals favor freshwater produce just as much as saltwater products like crabs, oysters, and seaweed. The most famous local delicacy is Shanghai hairy crab. The roe and the inward, featuring a splendid sweet flavor, are what people go for. It is better to try crabs when they are hot.
