Welcome to The Floating House, a unique modern tropical home that was shortlisted for 'house of the year award 2014' by The World Architecture News Awards (WAN). The Floating House was designed by Costa Rican architect Benjamin Garcia Saxe with interiors by Dante Medri and it also picked up five awards at the prestigious Costa Rican Binneal in 2015. The Floating House has been featured in several design and architectural magazines including Inhabitat, Dezeen, Design Boom, World Architecture News and Su Casa Magazine. The house offers a unique living experience floating above the canopy of the jungle, totally surrounded by nature. It combines expansive ocean views, luxury interiors with premium service, infinity swimming pool, and all within walking distance to the beach. We have a yearly maintenance refresh to keep the house looking as pristine as possible. We have been extremely conscious to make sure the house has had as little impact on its surroundings as possible. We have used a combination of local sustainable woods and have carefully picked colour schemes for the house to blend seamlessly with the outside environment. The Floating House Experience: Visual experience - being surrounded by a 180 degree view, spanning from the dawn rays over the mountains to the glow from the sun setting over the pacific, is spectacular and breathtaking. Eco experience - the house itself is made up of the three pods, floating above the canopy of the lush green jungle, connected by bridges and walkways. This was done to ensure we made the least impact on the natural surroundings. The floors are all sustainable teak and we also have solar water heating, a water treatment, UV water filtration and water capturing systems. Nature experience - there is nothing quite like seeing monkeys from the same perspective as they are watching things too, from the tree tops. There are eagles that glide alongside and circle the expansive verandas of the house, completing the uniqueness of spending time at The Floating house. Dining experience - the main living space is a huge open plan space with a solid teak dining table to seat 8 people. The gourmet chefs kitchen with a central island containing the large oven and gas cooker faces the expansive view to ensure an awesome view whilst preparing delicious meals. There are also comfortable teak high stools for the breakfast bar. Relaxing experience - we have had some hand crafted low lounge sofas made to ensure sitting at the best position to take in the jungle and ocean as well as two lovechairs with colourful hand-stitched pillows from Guatemala. These are framed by floor to ceiling glass concertina doors which open up to bring the outside in. There is also an impressive 24 meter back corridor connecting the living space to the bedrooms and bathroom made of over 300 pieces of vertical bamboo. Sleeping experience - your sleeping experience is an essential part of any vacation and we have not spared on the important luxurious details. All beds are orthopedic, pillows allergy-free and sheets are luxury 100% cotton. There are three bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms share a huge open air spa bathroom and the third bedroom (downstairs) has a compact en suite. The master bedroom has a king size bed and the second bedroom a queen and a single bed too. Each have louvered wooden concertina shutters that fully open onto the terrace. The rooms are 4mts by 4mts, have a large wardrobe, ac and a ceiling fan. Both have awesome views of the waves rolling in. The third bedroom which is downstairs is more compact with a double bed and a toilet / shower en suite. It also has ac and a fan. Poolside experience - the infinity swimming pool, sits below the house accessed by a few steps. It has been perfectly positioned for you to sit in the water and take in the sunset chorus of parrots squawking, monkeys howling or simply watch the waves. Hermosa experience - we came here because we fell in love with surfing and Hermosa beach and you will do the same. The beaches of Santa Teresa are consistently best beaches year after year and Hermosa is the hidden gem. Consistent waves, wide sandy beach and (so far) never too many people around. We work with the best surf instructors in Santa Teresa. For the more adventurous surfer, there are several beaches and breaks for you to check out and enjoy along the peninsula too. The little bay of Hermosa is growing and we now have some excellent dining options within walking distance from the Floating house. Koji's world class sushi for dinners and newly opened Colour cafe by chef Sebastian Reigner for breakfasts and lunches too. There is also a great Tapas spot and Pranamar restaurant and yoga shalla just a 10 minute walk along the beach. Santa Teresa experience - a ten minute drive takes you into the hustle and bustle of the surf town of santa teresa where you will find restaurants, a french bakery, bars, tourist shops, ATM's and even a grocery store with organic fruit and veg. Adrenalin experiences - further afield, there are personal nature tours to Curu, kayaking, zip-lining, mountain bike tours, gourmet dining tours, snorkeling and back at The Floating House, we can also arrange a private massage therapist, quality babysitters, an amazing private chef or even have your groceries delivered for you at check in.
