Positive: The cottage is located in a lovely village setting and is full of period character. It has been sympathetically restored to highlight it's unique features and period charm.
Negative: Firstly, I'd like to state that I'm no 'keyboard warrior' . I've pondered on how to review our stay as fairly as possible . So, in order to do that, I have to give context to our visit to this property. "We're travelling with our 86 year old mother and would appreciate a later checkout if possible... Many thanks..." We arrived at the property, everything was as advertised and we were very happy. Our elderly relative said that she was cold downstairs ( it's a period property with gaps around the front door and little direct daylight- so it felt cool) The host obliged but the boiler fired constantly and noisily, through the night. As we couldn't control the heating from the cottage ourselves- the following morning- I let the host know about the boiler being noisy and on all night and asked that it be turned off at 10pm. The duvets were rather thick so I enquired if the host had any light-weight duvets available - No response until Sunday. Saturday Night- The cottage is 'semi-detached' as noted - to a traditional pub with a beer garden directly behind the cottage- NOT mentioned on the details. This made it unsuitable for us with an elderly guest as customers were drinking, shouting & chanting in the covered walkway adjacent to the cottage's wall- until 10.45pm. I complained to the host that the pub is not mentioned in the property information sections- I've double-checked- it isn't. The host flipped between apology and aggressive accusations of us 'moaning about everything'.- to offering a refund- to telling us to check-out and go to a hotel to complain. Apparently, decorative narrow throws on the beds are an adequate substitute for a thinner duvet- no compromise necessary from the host's point of view.
Summary: Lovely property- poor hosting etiquette skills if things need adjusting for customer's comfort.
