The Aspen Ski Loft is located just 50 steps from the slopes of Beech Mountain Ski Resort. There are 40 steps from the driveway to the main entrance of the Aspen Ski Loft, which has large windows that provide amazing panoramic 100-mile, multi-layered long range views of the Appalachian Mountains. In April 2017, both bathrooms were completely remodeled: - Ceramic tile on the floors and surrounding the bathtubs - New porcelain on steel bathtubs, with new faucets and shower head - New vanities with solid surface, under-mounted sink, with new faucets - New toilets, chair height and elongated bowl - New plumbing; not glamorous, but important - New electrical wiring, outlets, switches, and can lights over the vanities and tubs In September 2016, there were major updates completed at the Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain, including many features to keep out the cold winter wind and snow: - Lower level windows: All of the windows on the lower level were replaced with 6 foot windows, with a 4 foot picture window on top of a 2 foot awning window. The windows are double-paned, and rated to be highly cold weather resistant. In addition, the windows are rated to withstand 100 mph winds. - Exterior siding: New bark siding, which is weather resistant, was added to the lower level, below the new windows. Shaker siding, which is also weather resistant, was added to the upper level exterior at the deck entrance, and below the upper level windows. - New roof: The new roofing material was designed to keep the cold weather out, and the warm weather in. The roof was updated to be weather resistant with new plywood and titanium underlayment, and with architectural shingles to withstand 100 mph winds. - New exterior doors: Both the upper and lower level exterior doors were upgraded to weather resistant fiberglass doors to keep out the cold wind and weather. In addition, an all-glass storm door was added to the upper level exterior doorway for additional winter weather protection. In September 2014, the kitchen was completely renovated by changing the footprint to provide a larger food preparation area and cooking space with new counter tops, including a full size convection oven with smooth cook top range, large built in microwave, new refrigerator with ice maker, and new dishwasher. In addition, all new kitchen cabinets and drawers were installed. Also in September 2014, the windows in the kitchen and living room were replaced to provide clear, expansive long range views. In the summer months, the awning at the top of the windows can be opened to allow full house circulation of the cool mountain air. The new windows and increased insulation means better comfort in the winter months. Also during the September 2014 renovation, the flooring in the living room and kitchen area was replaced, as well as a new King sized bed, dresser, night stand for the guest bedroom, along with new mattresses and box springs for the main and guest bedrooms. The September 2014 remodeling is in addition to previous renovations which have been done to continue to improve the experience for guests of the Aspen Ski Loft. Since purchasing the home in October 2010, we have added new ceramic tile in the lower level to replace the carpet, purchased new clothes washer and dryer, replaced the old inefficient fireplace with a new fireplace, replaced the carpet and installed new windows in the master and guest bedrooms, completely painted the exterior and interior, added new lighting inside and out, and installed a Nexia Home Intelligence system for remote management of the door locks, thermostats, lighting, and water heater. The main living area of the Aspen Ski Loft has a living room, dining room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. The Main bedroom has a queen bed, with a private bathroom. The guest bedroom has a king sized bed, with easy access to the hall bathroom. The finished lower level has a separate entrance, and has a den, a sleeping nook with queen bed, and the laundry room. On the main level, the living room has a rock hearth with a fireplace that keeps the house toasty warm. There is also a flat-screen LED TV with digital cable above the fireplace. The Aspen Ski Loft is located approximately 50 steps from the top of the 'Lower Shawneehaw' ski lift of Beech Mountain Ski Resort. You can literally walk down the steps of the Aspen Ski Loft, walk across the street, strap on your skis or boards, and start skiing or riding. During the spring, summer and autumn, the Aspen Ski Loft is a great place for mountain biking and hiking. There are numerous biking events, and from June through mid-October, the Beech Mountain resort lifts are open to carry your bike to the top of the mountain for extreme downhill biking. There are hundreds of miles of hiking trail on and around Beech Mountain, with the Emerald Outback Trail being within walking distance of the Aspen Ski Loft. Although the road is maintained by the Town of Beech Mountain, the Aspen Ski Loft is located right across the street from the ski slopes. Therefore there is blowing snow that accumulates on the road. A 4-Wheel / All-Wheel drive vehicle or snow chains are strongly recommended during the winter months. The area in which the Aspen Ski Loft is located is one of the most unique areas in Beech Mountain. While this area offers stunning mile high views and proximity to skiing, it also faces challenges in terms of adequate parking for residents and visitors. Guests of the Aspen Ski Loft will be issued a temporary Parking Permit during the winter ski season months to be used during their stay. Summers are cool, quiet and lovely, with time for shopping, hiking, whitewater rafting, golf and swimming, as well as Tweetsie Railroad and Emerald Mining for the kids. In addition, there is Grandfather Mountain nearby, with its mile-high swinging bridge and the wonderful Highland Games, which are held each summer. During the autumn, all types of festivals are held in the surrounding area, including The Wooly Worm Festival and the Autumn at Oz weekend. Beech Mountain is the highest incorporated town east of the Rocky Mountains. During the winter months, you have access to all the wonderful winter sports within walking distance of the Aspen Ski Loft, including downhill skiing, tubing, sledding, ice skating and cross-country skiing. There are three other ski resorts located within a 25 minute drive (Sugar Mountain, Appalachian, and Hawksnest). The Blue Ridge Parkway is located just 10 miles from Beech Mountain, offering a beautiful 2 hour drive to Asheville, North Carolina, or north into Virginia. Access to Beech Mountain Club - Golf, Tennis, Swim: Guests of the Aspen Ski Loft have optional access to the exclusive Beech Mountain Club, with access to golf, swimming, tennis courts, and the Fitness Center. Contact the owner of the Aspen Ski Loft for more information about transfer of membership to provide access to the Beech Mountain Club. Please allow 1 week prior to your arrival date for processing the transfer of membership. Should you want to eat out, several great restaurants are very close by, whether it is a 10 minute drive into Banner Elk or 17 mile drive to Boone. For a great shopping experience, the quaint town of Blowing Rock is 20 miles away. Great for couples, honeymooners, retirees, snowbirds, young people, golfers, tennis players, skiers, snowboarders, tubers, etc. Well behaved pets are welcome at the Aspen Ski Loft with a $100 Pet Fee, and guests are asked to agree to these conditions: 1. Pets must go outside to pee and poop 2. Pets cannot get on the furniture, especially the sectional sofa, as their claws can rip the fabric. 3. Pets cannot sleep in or on the beds as some of our guests have allergies. 4. Any damage caused by your pet are the guest's responsibility Guests are kindly requested to take their garbage to the Town of Beech Mountain Convenience Center, located across Beech Mountain Parkway from Fred's General Mercantile, rather than using the trash bins located at the Aspen Ski Loft. There has been a terrible problem with raccoons and bears getting in to the trash bin located at the Aspen Ski Loft, spreading the trash and making quite a mess. Not to mention they keep tearing up the trash bin. Therefore, we are asking our guests to take their garbage to the Town of Beech Mountain Convenience Center, and not put any garbage in the trash bins located at the Aspen Ski Loft. There is a "Resident Permit" hanging on the refrigerator door in the Aspen Ski Loft for your use to take your garbage to the Town of Beech Mountain Convenience Center during your stay if needed, and at the end of your stay as you are departing the Aspen Ski Loft. Please be sure to return the "Resident Permit" to the refrigerator door before your departure. The Town of Beech Mountain charges a $375 fee to replace the Resident Permit. The Town of Beech Mountain Convenience Center is located about one-half mile away from the Aspen Ski Loft. From Ski Loft Road, turn left on to Beech Mountain Parkway, and go about one-quarter mile. The Convenience Center enter is on the right, across Beech Mountain Parkway from Fred's General Mercantile. Simply drive into the Convenience Center, toss your bagged garbage into a dumpster, and drive out. We realize this is an inconvenience for our guests, and your understanding and cooperation is greatly appreciated. It will greatly reduce the amount of trash being strewn about the Aspen Ski Loft, and it will also reduce the quantity of visits from unwanted animals during the night.
