Positive: Our family (2 adults and 2 kids) stayed at Vista Ikegami for a week. We loved the place and would stay there again in a heartbeat. It's located in a quiet residential area. Fairly easy to get to public transportation without suitcases: The bus stop is around the corner (buses run from about 7 AM until 10 PM). The closest subway station, Ikegami, is about an 11-minute walk (we used it a lot), and there is another one 22 minutes away (we used it once and did not enjoy the up-and-downhill walk). The living room has traditional tatami flooring with a traditional small table - we enjoyed having daily family dinners in that room. The bedroom has two beds (size is bigger than twin but not queen, and it felt smaller than full size in the US). There are also 3 mattresses that we could roll out in the living room, so 5 people can sleep very comfortably in this place. There is no door between the living room and the bedroom. There are 2 AC units, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. There is a washer that's very easy to use with a 30-minute wash cycle. The washer allowed us to travel to Japan with carry-on luggage only for a 20-day trip. There is no dryer - we used the drying rack. The host provided excellent directions for all the equipment. Fully functional kitchen with a refrigerator. For groceries (our kids wanted to try various noodle bowls) we used two places: FamilyMart around the corner (about a 2-3 minute walk) and MaxValu Express supermarket (next to Ikegami station, on the way to Vista Ikegami). Overall, this was truly a HOME AWAY FROM HOME for us!
Negative: Vista Ikegami is a fantastic place and we would stay there again without hesitation. The few notes below are not the "not like" items but rather a heads-up for folks to know what to expect so that you won't get disappointed in this wonderful place. 1) As tourists who wanted to explore Tokyo, I wish we stayed closer to major points of interest. It was taking us at least 45-60 minutes of one-way commute time (and 900 yen per person) by subway and/or bus to get to Disneyland, Harry Potter Museum, Asakusa, Tokyo National Museum and other places. 2) Another minor inconvenience is that there are no closets and shelves to hang your clothes, only two large storage-like compartments where the rollout mattresses are stored. We were living out of suitcases and kept suitcases in the kitchen (bedroom was too small for suitcases and we did not want to damage family room's tatami flooring with suitcase rollers). 3) The shower has no curtain and the bath tub is half the size of the standard US tub, so it takes some adjustment/learning to shower without splashing water all over the floor. 4) Our room was on the 3rd floor and there is no elevator - this was not a problem for us but maybe an issue for folks with mobility challenges.
