Whalers Island Vacation Rental was originally called Whale Island as it supported whaling operations in the 1800’s. During whale season(Oct-Jan) whales comes within a 100 yards of Whale island and easily viewed on the south side. Whale Island vacation rental was one of the few Abalone farms on the west coast. Since then MM Diving has stored commercial diving gear including underwater welding equipment in the building. A operational decompression chamber is currently on site. This listing is for "The Whale Room". It consists of two upstairs bedrooms with bunk beds, futon couch and restroom downstairs. Views overlooking the harbor, city, lighthouse and South Beach. There are two units that share a common entry into the warehouse, but EACH have their own private entrance, kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping spaces. Think of apartments within a building. It is possible that other guest will be in the other unit during your stay. At night, city and harbor lights are indeed incredibly unique to only this location. The property is fenced, up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome with a $50 per pet cleaning fee. A fire pit is available for use and there is plenty of room to park a RV and boats in the fenced area. Depending on the boat size it may be brought into the building or at least backed in to the wheel house for repairs out of the weather. Whaler Island VR is surrounded by water, 200 yards from the boat ramp, 100 yards from world class Whalers surfing point, a short distance to South Beach multiple surfing breaks with Pebble Beach, Garths and The Point surf breaks a few miles away A easy SCUBA diving entry point just outside the fenced area and you can fish within a stone’s throw of your bed. Bottom fish caught just outside of the building include Ling Cod of surprising size and Dungeness crab. Restaurants are a short walking distance should you choose to eat out. A propane Barbeque is provided as is our mega smoker El Capitan. A crab cooker is also available for those who catch Dungeness crab. Full kitchens are in both units. Make no mistake about it. This is a commercial building converted to two pretty luxurious units and not an average hotel. Surging waters, waves, harbor fog horn, harbor entry buoy bells and harbor seals barking provide sounds only this location can provide. If the harbor area is not enough- Redwood State and National parks are minutes away as is the Smith River and Klamath rivers Feel free to walk in wet from surfing as the units are designed for easy cleanup. Clean your fish and crabs and throw the innards back into the sea.
