The Writers House at Frenchman's River Farm, Cygnet, Tasmania is the perfect retreat for one or two people. Wether you seek that special place to celebrate an anniversary or birthday, or just want to spend time together in romantic surroundings - or be by yourself in lovely countryside - the Writers House has been designed with you in mind. Beauty, luxury and serenity is our motto and that's what we hope our guests enjoy when they stay with us at Frenchman's River. The Writer's House is stocked with interesting books (including some of Posie's novels) in shelves that climb the walls and the chef's kitchen is generously supplied with local, fresh seasonal produce including Tasmanian wine and cheese (it also comes equipped with three ways of making coffee - espresso, Nespresso & plunger.) There's a proper pantry, too, with excellent dry provisions, oil, vinegar and dried herbs etc (in season, fresh herbs can be plucked straight from the garden), a dishwasher and a german gas & electric stove. A complimentary bottle of wine or local cider accompanies a selection of Tasmanian cheeses and you'll find ample breakfast provisions in the fridge with farm fresh eggs and local bacon, fresh artisan bread, muesli, local yoghurt and milk from the dairy down the road. A Bose sound system, netflix, free wifi and an open fire add to the pleasures of the seasons; why go outside if it snows, or there's frost? Snuggle up on the comfy couch wrapped in a mohair throw and watch the flames dance as double glazing take control of the weather outside. And in summer, the North facing terrace with lovely views beckons on which to drink that special bottle of wine as you watch the sun go down. Eclectic furniture is a feature of the Writer's House - an original Swedish Art Deco dining table with genuine Eames chairs, for instance keep company with a massive English Oak heirloom bookcase - and there's Tasmanian art on all the walls from Posie and Andrew's own collection. In the romantic bedroom there's a bed that's not too soft, not too hard, with a sheepskin underlay and crisp, luxurious linen, an electric blanket and heating too that keeps you snug (plus a fan for summer nights.) In spring or summer, pull back the bi-fold windows, throw open the French doors and breakfast on the North-facing deck embraced by the pretty native/exotic cottage garden. If they smell the coffee, your nearest neighbours - the pedigree black angus lowlines - might come visiting, since the Writer's House is surrounded by the Frenchman's River farm. And, the best thing? The house sits snug on a ridgeline with romantic views over fields that roll down to Cygnet Bay yet has end of the road privacy (and it's walking distance to bustling, creative Cygnet with its great coffee shops and galleries. Tiny it might be but you'll find most of what you might need or want there.) You'll find the country roads another charming discovery. Almost every one will take you wandering beside the river and the bay and, tucked away, you'll come across tiny beaches and picnic spots embraced by hills and water. A paradise for photographers at every turn of the road. 20 minutes from the Writers House, too, is the Ferry to Bruny Island at Kettering, or you could head west and then South from Cygnet to Franklin - home of the picturesque Wooden Boat Centre - and then continue South to the Airwalk at Tahune (where you can walk through the tops of Forest Giants). You might like to explore the underground realm of the Hastings caves with their thermal springs (swim all year round) or ride through the bush to Southport on the eccentric Ida Bay Railway. Whatever you decide to do, you'll find the Writers House is a world all of its own. And, in winter, you might even see the lights of the Southern Aurora dance over the bay if you get up before dawn (or go to bed very late indeed). We'd be delighted if you'd like to be our guests.
