2 Bedroom Boat Rental in Staines, Chertsey

Welcome aboard the beautiful widebeam barge The Time Machine, moored in a private garden on the River Thames near Chertsey. 5 mins from Thorpe Park theme park, 15 mins from Heathrow Airport and easy access to the M25, M3 and M4 and the South East. The Time Machine is the ideal base for working away from home, family holidays, fishing breaks, weekends away or as a quiet retreat to write, paint or study. Unwind to the sound of the nearby weir and be dazzled by the kingfishers as they dart along the water's surface. The accommodation comprises a full size double bedroom with double bed, double wardrobe and plenty of drawer space. The opening side hatches compliment this peaceful room that never fails to produce a great night's sleep. There is also a small single cabin on the boat and a double sofa bed in the living room. If preferred, there is a single camp bed that can be put in the living room instead of the sofa bed. All bedding is provided. A clean sleeping bag is provided for the camp bed and the sofa bed has the option of either full bedding or a double sleeping bag. When booking please let me know which beds you require so the appropriate bedding can be made available. 15 mins drive to Heathrow. 10 mins drive to Shepperton Studios. 2 mins drive/10 min walk to Thorpe Park theme park. Local attractions - Windsor Castle, Eton College, Legoland, Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures, Hampton Court Palace, Runnymede, Wisley Royal Horticultural Society Gardens, Wentworth Golf Club, Wembley and Twickenham Stadiums. There is a large selection of places to eat either in Staines-upon-Thames or Chertsey. If I'm free, I'll gladly help out with a lift (either by car or boat) here and there so you don't have to worry about taxis or driving. ***New for 2017*** Guests have free use of a 13ft dingy called Weena. She is fitted with a 10hp outboard and is perfect for fishing, day trips, wildlife watching and family adventures. Fully insured for up to 5 adults. Life jackets and instruction on the use of the boat all provided free of charge. All I ask is that you make a contribution towards the fuel that you use. Guests have full use of the inside and outside area of the boat where the rear deck of the boat is a wonderful spot to relax in the sun with a cool drink while watching the local Kingfishers dart backwards and forwards. There is also an undercover BBQ area for guests to use, with a fire pit to keep you warm well into the the evening. Free parking is provided in the garden next to the mooring. If you enjoy a spot of fishing then you are welcome to fish from the boat whenever you like and once you've received some instruction you are welcome to use the dingy for fishing. Trips aboard my cruiser can also be arranged if you want to get into some of the local nooks and crannies for some pike or barbel. Please note that on the River Thames there is a fishing close season between 15 March and 15 June. I will be on my cruiser next to The Time Machine so can be on hand to explain how everything works and to make sure you have everything you need. There is WiFi aboard and a SMART TV with access to all Freeview channels, NOW TV, Netflix and Amazon Prime. Roxy the dog lives with me but if dogs are not your thing then Roxy can spend a couple of days elsewhere. General interaction is entirely up to the guests. Where I can I will happily ferry you around on my cruiser or by car. If you wish to see the local Kingfishers at work I'll take you out on the cruiser to some local spots where they appear regularly or you can take yourself there in Weena the dingy. One of the best places nearby for a drink and meal is at The Kingfisher in Chertsey. It is about 25 mins by boat (5 by car) and I'll gladly ferry you down there and bring you back later in the evening. I will just add that none of the above running around by boat or car is contractual but you are here to enjoy yourself so if I'm free I'll help out as much or as little as you wish. If you are looking for some quiet time, just say and I'll keep out of your way as much as possible. Staines-upon-Thames is a 10 min drive and provides the main shopping centre in the area and a very good selection of restaurants, take-aways and has a large multi screen cinema. Chertsey is a 5 min drive. It is a small town with good pubs, take-aways and a variety of smaller shops. Heathrow is a 15 min drive and a lift to or from the airport will gladly be provided when possible. Leaving a car at the mooring whilst on holiday can be arranged for an extra fee. Thorpe Park theme park is only 2 mins by car or a 10 min walk up the lane. Staines-upon-Thames, the main London rail link with regular trains to Waterloo is about a 15 min away. The train journey from Staines to Waterloo take about 45 mins depending on the service and time of day. Close access to the M25, M3 and M4 mean that most areas of the South East are within reach. The nearest bus stop is about a 5-7 min walk from the boat and provides buses to either Staines-upon-Thames or Chertsey. Staines has a bus station that provides buses to a large area including Heathrow Airport. Access to the boat is via a gangplank with a step onto a floating pontoon. The height of the step varies on river conditions. It is all quite safe but would not be suitable for someone with balance problems or difficulty walking. The very large garden is also used by my neighbours who live on the Dutch Barge moored at the property and the resident of the house. There is though a separate area for guests to use for BBQs etc.The toilet is a normal flush loo that empties into a holding tank. This will normally be in use but there may be occasions (flooding or increased river flows etc.) when the boat cannot be taken to have the tank emptied. At these times a chemical loo will be available for the sole use of the guests. There isn't a bath aboard The Time Machine, only a shower. Guests staying aboard The Time Machine will not be able to take the boat away from the mooring. It is to be used as a static residence and not for cruising the river. If you wish to go for a cruise, I will happily take you out on my other boat if I am free and river conditions are safe. Once you have been shown how to safely use the dingy, you can take her out as often as you wish. Swimming in the Thames is safe only if you are a strong swimmer. The boat is near a weir and although it looks very pretty, there are strong undercurrents which are very dangerous. Please ask me about river conditions before you go swimming. I own the boat not the mooring and it is the boat only that is listed. There are no plans to move but if due to unforeseen circumstances the location of the boat has to change, it will still be in the close vicinity of its present location near Staines-upon-Thames and Chertsey.
