The Flowerbed Shed is unique. With comfy bed , kitchen essentials, en suite outdoor shower (hot!) and composting toilet, it's a charming retreat just 7m from Oxford .
The space.
You have sole use of the space, with a grassy seating area to the side, where you can use the ( small, tabletop sized) barbecue. A little veranda faces the orchard, upper garden and main house, here you can soak up the last rays of the evening sun and watch the chickens who are usually busy scratching about under the trees. Cooking facilities include a double electric hob, electric kettle, toaster, microwave and fridge. ( There is a sink unit with a cold tap, but hot water for washing up is either from the shower, or the kettle) The 'outdoor bathroom' is en suite and quite unique. Although sheltered, it is partially open to one side giving you a fantastic view of the field when you take a shower. A composting toilet is beyond the shower, ultimately providing wonderful nutrients for my flower garden! The bed is a comfortable double, there are arm chairs and plenty of table space. Guests are welcome to use the washing machine and dryer, situated in an outbuilding, for a small additional (£5) charge. The shed is often used as an art studio and is exceptionally light with direct afternoon sunshine in the summer. There is wifi which is supposed to be 'super fast', but it can be a little slow from time to time.
Guest access
Guests can park off road by the main house and make their way through the large garden to the Flowerbed shed. You are also welcome to enjoy other parts of the garden and sample surplus produce from the veggy patch and eggs from the chickens. ( Hens are often loose in the garden but they can be penned if you don't like birds! My dog, Bonnie, is often in the garden too. She is a real softie and likes to welcome guests with me! )
Lizie lives in the main house so is often around and happy to help with questions and suggestions. She is often in the flower garden and veggy patch or elsewhere in the garden!
Other things to note
From the shed (and the shower!) it's common to see deer, fox, rabbits, pheasants and barn owls in the field.
My bantam hens are often roaming in the garden…following me around as I dig and weed, as is my dog, Bonnie. You are likely to enjoy long periods of listening to the natural sounds of the countryside….but also, as you might expect, the occasional sounds of garden maintenance, as I, and my neighbours, tend our lawns and hedges!
In May and late September it can be quite chilly in the shed, although there is a freestanding radiator. So please bring warm clothes!
There are a couple of old bikes for short local trips....( helmets and lights provided)
