The Cob Barn is an enchanting earth building nestled in the forest on the northern slopes of Mt Arthur, high above the village of Lilydale.
Situated on the edge of a large pond with a rainforest backdrop, and adjacent to our home and peony farm, this special setting is an ideal place to unwind.
When you arrive, the key will be in the door and the fire set. Make yourself at home, all that's left to do is enjoy !
The building is a unique hand shaped structure made from cob, a mixture of clay, sand and straw with interior lime rendered walls. Once an old timber barn, it has been beautifully renovated to provide comfortable self-contained accommodation.
Through the french doors you can view the pond that is visited by wild ducks. There is also a small rowboat on the pond for your enjoyment. Or soak away your cares in a steamy hot outdoor bath hidden behind a spiral cob wall and then relax round the fire pit at night under a starry heaven.
Inside the Cob Barn guests can enjoy the warmth of a delightful wood fire and can relax with a selection of DVDs, books, games and music. The kitchen is well equipped for meal preparation, with hot plates, oven and an espresso coffee machine. Outside, there is a BBQ and a fire pit on the deck overlooking the pond.
The Cob Barn is just a stones throw from Misty Mountain Peonies our small specialist cut flower farm. Flowering season starts about late November through to late December. For the adventurous, there is a walking track through the beautiful temperate rainforest, amongst giant manferns, Blackwoods, Sassafras and Musk.
Guests are provided with delicious breakfast provisions including free range eggs from our chickens, a 'cob' loaf, berry/oat Granola, yoghurt and more. Bathrobes and electric blankets are provided.
The Cob Barn is your private space to enjoy. We respect your privacy and will leave you in peace. You will catch glimpses of our house, but you won't see us unless you need to. Please feel free to text or phone us if you need any assistance. Our phone number is listed in our Guest Information Book.

Other things to note
We are located 6.3km from Lilydale. Please be aware that the last 3km is a winding dirt road through the forest. It's a bit narrow, so drive slowly, look out for animals (wallabies, kangaroos, quolls....) and enjoy the view.
Our property is also home to Charlie our Welsh Springer Spaniel, a clutch of happy hens and a flock of weeder geese.
Heating at The Cob Barn is provide by a wood heater. Firewood is supplied. An ability to operate a slow combustion heater is necessary.
There is one flight of stairs up to the bedroom and two steps down from the entrance hall to the kitchen/lounge area.
There is limited mobile phone reception but we do have wifi.
