The Bunkhouse is chock full of "eye candy" vintage country decor that is cowboy (and cowgirl) themed. From the rebuilt couch and matching chair, made in the 1930's, to the Monterey furniture - from the 1940's (moved over from the main house) and original "Pinecraft" furniture built by C Seldon Beldon , an Idyllwild furniture maker from the 30's to early 1950's. The owners want their guests to feel at home and be able to take a complete mental break when they visit. Hike some of the best trails in southern CA or just stroll into town and have lunch, a glass of wine or some local brewed beer. Either way, The Bunkhouse is not just a place to spend the night; it is a destination. One of the oldest of original "summer home" areas in Idyllwild. The original owners - CC and Winette Hooper - were "horse people" and would come up from San Jacinto in the spring and stay until the fall. Like their horse-loving friends in the area, they would then come back for Thanksgiving. And stay in "Fern Haven" - main house - originally built in 1924. The "bunkhouse", built in the 1930s, was originally a room over the garage. It converted into the romantic hide-away in 2006 and the Dukesherer's added their "cowboy" theme and décor when they purchased the home in the summer of 2013. Many homes in the area are now maintained and visited by the grandchildren of the original owners. Many movie stars from Elvis to Katherine Hepburn frequented the area and filmed movies, and some owned property. Johnny Weissmuller (Tarzan) owned the property across the creek (although I hear he did not visit much, the Hooper's grandson, (Cort, used to play with Junior every summer). And Efrem Zimbalist Jr. (77 Sunset Strip) owned the home to the east at one time. The opening scene from Bonanza (1963) was filmed in Garner Valley, an unforgettable drive just a short distance from the entrance to town).
