Bordering the pristine rainforest of the Tarra Bulga National Park, the retreat is surrounded by natural beauty. Walk to crystal rivers, waterfalls, fern forest and lush meadow. Optional healing and spiritual retreats/therapies are available. The gallery style retreat house, on the edge of the pristine rainforest, is the perfect place to escape to. It offers both comfort and beauty, is filled with original artwork and surrounded by nature’s tranquility. Although we run healing retreats at Tarkira Tree you are perfectly welcome to book straight accommodation with no sessions of any kind. LOCAL AREA Adjoining the pristine rainforest of Tarra Bulga National Park, Tarkira Tree Rainforest Retreat is the perfect escape. Take time to explore mystical tree ferns, towering mountain ash and ancient myrtle beech. Take short magical walks or set off for a longer hike. See wombats, wallabies, koalas and lyrebirds. Breathe in the stunning and untouched beauty of the forest. Fall asleep to the lyrical, soothing sound of the Tarra River. Stroll through the picturesque loveliness of the Tarra Valley. See lush, semi- forested farmland, mountain ash, emerald pasture,waterfalls, rocky cliff faces and the stunningly pretty Tarra River. Wander through William Holt’s studio at the bottom of the garden, and soak in the visual loveliness of the abstract and representational paintings. Relax in the large permaculture gardens, with berries, roses, herbs and fruit tress. They are very wilderness style gardens, so quite lush, messy and natural with abundant flowers, and greenery, insects and birds and frogs. Explore Gippsland's nearby beaches, and the famous 90 mile beach, a pristine coastal wilderness. Rest, and renew your spirit, with natural therapies to make you feel blissful and relaxed. Take the time for an individual or group retreat. In the peace of the forest setting, experience deep meditation, relaxation and nurturing. USEFUL THINGS TO KNOW - IMPORTANT NOTE: THERE IS NO MOBILE PHONE RECEPTION IN THE VALLEY, AND ONLY LIMITED SATELLITE WI-FI. If you need to make a phone call you are welcome to use the landline phone in the main house near your retreat house. FOOD, RESTAURANTS AND CAFES Yarram is the nearest town to Tarkira Tree. It is a very pretty 20 min drive, mostly through the valley. Yarram has a major supermarket for all your food shopping needs. If you turn at the BP service station which is on the main road you will see the supermarket almost immediately. Yarram has a pub called the The Glasshouse, which is on the main road. It has decent pub meals that are quite nice. There is also a chinese restaurant, also on the main street, which similarly has quite nice/reasonably delicious meals. Yarram has a nice bakery for lunches and also a genuinely delicious café for lunches. The café is on the main road, opposite the BP service station, and is called The Federal Coffee Palace. There is also a café for lunches, at the Tarra Bulga Guest House, which is in the actual forest, at Balook, a 15 min drive away. For stylish and awesome dining, there are two options that may be available, depending on the season. Tom's Cap winery, a 35 min drive away, and open for lunch fri, sat, sun, is delicious, scenic and gorgeous. Wildfish, a 35 min drive to the coast at Port Albert, has delicious seafood meals in a stylish restaurant on the water. The local caravan park, Fernholme, is a gentle 10 minute walk away and serves delicious coffees, scones, toasted sandwiches etc. SALT/PEPPER ETC....... In your retreat house you will find Himalayan rock salt, pepper, olive oil, tea bags, herbal tea bags, coffee supplies and sugar. Your accommodation has a DVD player and a selection of DVD's, and an ipod compatible CD player. The kitchen is fully equipped with oven, stove, microwave, etc and a coffee machine.
