Welcome to La Puerta del Mar, perched above the mouth of the Navarro River where it meets the Pacific Ocean. On nearly two private acres just a few miles south of Mendocino, this spacious home is ideal for up to eight people traveling together, or for a romantic getaway just for two. Time slows down as you watch and listen to the waves, and after a soak in the six-person hot tub, you'll sleep like a baby. Or you can warm up in the Finnish wet/dry sauna -- yes, we have a sauna! We have four real beds -- three king-size and one double in our cozy "library" room. We'll set up both of the fireplaces -- one in the living room, one in the master bedroom -- for you, so all you'll have to do is light the kindling. We always keep extra firewood on hand, so you'll be all set for a fire inside or outside in the firepit. For those who enjoy an indoor soak, the master bedroom has a huge tub by the window. Draw yourself a bubble bath and take in the views down the coast in the privacy of the master bedroom. If you can't quite leave work behind or want to stream a movie or two, we've got super-fast internet service (no slow satellite internet for us). We have three televisions with DirecTV, one of which is a smart TV with access to Netflix, Pandora, and other apps, as well as a Bose sound bar for extra-clear audio. Your four-legged friends are welcome at our house. Please let us know you're bringing your dog. We have dog gear for you (dog beds, bowls, poop bags). All we ask is that you use our paw-print fleece blankets to cover the furniture if your pup is a couch surfer and clean up after your dog. The yard is fenced so your pets will have a big area to sniff around. We love to cook, and we've aimed to stock our kitchen with everything you'd need to whip up dinner: a large set of Calphalon pots and pans, two food processors, a pizza stone, a slow cooker, baking pans, a nice selection of spices, olive oil, and several kinds of vinegar. If you like to BBQ, you'll love our four-burner Weber Genesis gas grill. We take our coffee seriously, and we know it's likely you do, too, so we've got a brand-new Cuisinart drip coffee pot, a French press, an electric DeLonghi moka-style espresso machine, a burr grinder, and an Aerolatte milk frother. For those traveling with little ones, we have a portable crib and kid-friendly dinnerware. From your home away from home, you'll have easy access to Mendocino, beaches (Navarro Beach is less than five minutes away by car, with plenty of free parking), wineries, parks, and cute Northern California towns. It's also a great home base for families gathering for weddings at Cuffey's Cove. But really, it's OK just to relax, watch for whales and seals, and read a book. You'll go home rejuvenated, we promise. Please note: Parking is outdoors. There is a flight of 28 stairs from the parking pads down to the home. Inside the house, there are two steps down to the living area and two steps back up to the dining area and kitchen. We have outdoor security cameras (by the parking, the side of the house facing west, and over the front door). Because of parking limitations, our septic system, and our desire to maintain our home in top-notch condition, no parties, weddings, or events are allowed. Maximum occupancy is eight guests, including children. We have a two-night minimum but will consider one-night stays on a case-by-base basis. Please get in touch to discuss options.
