2 Bedroom Condo in Poipu, Koloa

The spirit of aloha lives in our tropical two-bedroom, ocean view condominium, and it awaits your arrival! Situated on a small rise, the view of the ocean is as delightful as the trade winds that greet you when you slide open the plantation shutters. Our unit - #74, in Building 14 - is a corner unit, so privacy is yours as well. And in March of 2023 we added AIR CONDITIONING in both bedrooms and upstairs in the kitchen/living room area!
We have decorated the condo (we call it Hale Ohana-House of Family and Friends) in “island style” to stay in spirit with the tropical views all around you. As it can accommodate six guests (1 king, 1 queen and queen sofa bed), our hope is that you will relax during your stay! Sit on the lanai upstairs (or the patio outside the master bedroom) and enjoy the swaying palms and vibrant blue hues of the Pacific.
One of the delights in staying at Kiahuna Plantation is its grounds, brimming with plumeria trees, bougainvillea, hibiscus, bridges and lawns that meet the sea. Hale Ohana sits near the middle of these lush 35 acres. The Moir Gardens - also famous for its collection of cacti, bromelaids, koi fish and water lilies are located here as well; you will see them when you check in with Outrigger Resorts. There are gas BBQ grills dotted all over the property. The “great lawn” at Kiahuna is nestled up-to beautiful Poipu Beach, acclaimed for its warm, crystal clear water, swimming, snorkeling, surfing and boogie boarding. It’s just the perfect spot to do anything- or, absolutely nothing! It’s no wonder that Poipu has been awarded the ninth "Best Beach" in America in 2023 by Dr. Beach (out of 650 beaches in America)
We fell in love with Kiahuna when we honeymooned there over 35 years ago and fell in love with it again when we began visiting with our two young sons. Now in their 30’s, they still love all the water sports, hiking, kayaking, body surfing and reading under the palm trees.
FURTHER NOTES ON HALE OHANA
Hale Ohana was completely remodeled in 2010. The kitchen sink (stainless steel) and countertops were upgraded (Travertine tile and granite). New wooden cabinets were installed, as well as a new oven, microwave and refrigerator. Since the major remodel, other items have been replaced (carpet) or upgraded (toasters, coffee makers, pots and pans). As the condo is frequently in use, we replace pillows, bedspreads, furniture and design elements often.
In February 2020 all interior walls were painted and the master bathroom cabinets were refinished. In May 2021 we upgraded the tile on the master lanai.
As the unit occupies the east end of Building 14, there are many more windows than a middle unit, and the trade winds flow freely (ceiling fans have been installed in each room). There is neither a unit above or below. Both bedrooms have flat panel TVs with cable. Free high-speed internet service is provided, and the living room has a Sonos audio system.
When you enter the condo, you’ll be on the ground floor, which hosts the two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The kitchen, dining room and living room are on the upper level. There is an unobstructed ocean view from the upstairs and downstairs lanai, but the condo is set back far enough from the main beach that guests have lower noise and greater privacy. Both the great lawn and beach are a short 2 minute walk away.
OUTRIGGER RESORTS MANAGEMENT COMPANY: FYI
There are two on-property management companies. We employ Outrigger to assist us with our condo. When you check in, you will enter the first driveway marked Kiahuna Plantation/Plantation House Restaurant. Should you need assistance during your stay (for example - if the toaster should break) please contact Outrigger to help.
The second management company is called Castle Resorts. It’s up to the Owner to decide which company they want to work with.
CHECK IN/CHECK OUT
Check In is at 3:00 pm. This gives Housekeeping enough time to make sure the condo is clean and to restock supplies. Check out is at 11:00 am. Should you need, Outrigger may be able to store your luggage for several hours. There are no Check Out fees.
CLEANING
Following is a description of one “Full Housekeeping” service: New sheets and towels; trash takeout; and a full cleaning of the condo. This service is included once a week (for each stay that includes 7 nights).
Extra Housekeeping services are available upon request at the cost of the guest.
BEACH SUPPLIES
Beach chairs and towels are available from the Beach Hut for free; bring your room key and sign in at the desk. The Hut also sells cold water/soda and sunscreen; and, there are brochures about island activities. Inquire here if you are interested in taking a surfing lesson at Kiahuna - they vary with the seasons. You may also be able to rent fins/snorkels, masks and boogie boards, but our experience has been inconsistent (sometimes they do/don’t have supplies - and quality is variable).
Inside Hale Ohana, there will be a supply of beach equipment that we, and guests, have left for others to use. There may be boogie boards, umbrellas and Tommy Bahama beach chairs.
LAUNDRY
Good news! There is a stacked washer/dryer unit in the downstairs hallway. Should you want to run multiple loads quickly, there are commercial washers and dryers close by the Castle Resort office.
SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS
In the Master Bedroom, there is one King Bed.
In the Guest Bedroom, there is a Queen Bed.
In the Living Room, there is a fold out sofa that can sleep 2 people.
Outrigger - the management company we work with - can bring over an additional fold out bed., if available.
POIPU BEACH ATHLETIC CLUB
As long as you are a guest at Kiahuna, you have access to this great club, which is a short walk from the condo. There you will find a swimming pool with a slide AND a shallow end for children. There are tennis courts, a jacuzzi, and a gym filled with workout equipment. You may want to contact them to schedule classes, such as Yoga.

GOLF
Kiahuna Plantation is just a short distance from the famous Poipu Bay golf course, which hosted the Grand Slam tournament for many years. Do look into their self-guided Sunset Tour: you can rent a cart and enjoy the sunset from the rugged coastline.
Nearby is the Kiahuna golf course, and there are two courses in Lihue.
About a 20-minute drive away is a casual, nine-hole course named Kukuilono-very affordable, great views, and a fun place to buy a drink or get a bite to eat. Its located in Kalaheo, which also has a yummy Brick Oven Pizza and a great cafe.
There are several golf courses on the North Shore, in the Princeville area.
SHOPPING
If you enjoy shopping, you are in luck! Everything you need is close at hand:

About 2 miles away: the upscale Kukuiula Shopping Center:
(Tommy Bahama, Reyn Spooner, Quiksilver, fancy restaurants). Fun Farmer's Market with music on Wednesday afternoons!
If you want to shop as the locals do, drive to Lihue (Costco, Home Depot, Target, Safeway and Macy's).
CHILDREN
Portable Pack-n-Play cribs, highchairs and baby gates for the stairway are available at no cost: be aware, however, this depends on availability.
Should you want to arrange for a babysitter to come to Hale Ohana, you can call the Outrigger Front Desk and they will assist you.
All guests at Kiahuna are welcome to join the children's programs at the Sheraton Hotel. Rates range from $50.00 to $100.00, depending on half/full day and with or without lunch. Contact the Sheraton’s Concierge at (808) 742-4012. Booking at least 24 hours in advance is recommended.
Children over the age of 4 love the “Hula Night” at The Grand Hyatt (so do many of the adults!) Call them to confirm which nights- schedule changes often!
CAR RENTAL
Check the Internet for the best deals, as weekly rates vary wildly due to seasonal demand. Book well in advance, especially if you will on Kauai over the holidays! For convenience, you may want to book with a rental car company that is at the Lihue Airport. after you get your luggage, just walk across the street and a Courtesy Bus will take you to the rental office. We would recommend you apply for a free membership with your chosen rental car company (before you book), because it can save you a long wait to pick up your car. It’s tough to deplane with several hundred people, and then see half of them in the line ahead of you! Way better to be in the "Priority/Fast Break/VIP" club and walk right up to the counter (they are free to join).

Summary: The view from our condo was even better than in the photos. Our host Alan responded quickly to any inquiries we had ahead of our stay. It was a bonus to have a washer/dryer and air conditioning in the unit, along with a mere 2 minute walk to a beautiful beach. The grounds at Kiahuna plantation are beautiful and kept in immaculate condition. None of us wanted to leave.
