Our traditional Maine seaside cape house is on 6 Acres at the end of a peninsula overlooking the mouth of the Machias River on one side and Machias Bay on the other side. Originally built in 1832 as the house of Captain Benjamin Clark, this home has been expanded and fully updated and renovated over the years to provide now over 4000 sq. ft of comfortable living space. A retreat for easy living, the space is a perfect mix of tradition, charm and comfort. This is the 5th year that we have rented the house with and so we have several reviews to share with you. The reviews assure you that this is a wonderful place to stay and you will want to return year after year. Capturing 360 degrees of lovely views, if you look east and west , you will enjoy colorful sunrises over Machias Bay and fabulous sunsets over the river. During the day you can relax on the large deck overlooking the fields and the sea, walk the labyrinth spirit path on the point, pass by the final resting place of Captain Clark and his wife, the couple who originally built the house in 1832, or contemplate life while sitting on the teak bench under the shade of our massive maple tree. If you watch carefully you will see eagles and blue heron fly north along the shore and field edge every morning and see them return in the afternoon. In the yard you may enjoy croquet on the lawn, play shuffle board, or simply enjoy the gorgeous gardens and water view on three sides of the house. Enjoy this large home featuring magnificent detail in its 'East Room', where you can listen to music, watch TV, play games or simply enjoy the spanning Ocean view before you. Upstairs over the East Room you will find the spacious fully skylit Master Bedroom with its own skylit bathroom. Let your day unfold with breakfast in the Morning Room, the formal dining room, or on the deck. During the day or evening entertain yourselves or your guests with a game of pool on the professional sized pool table.
