The owner, an archaeologist and art historian, has furnished the three-storied traditional high ceiling residence with original furniture, to create a welcome atmosphere for the guests. Its positive aura, as well as its simplicity will take you back in time. The house is near the central square of Glossa, and also close to the Folklore and the Marine Museums. Glossa is a peaceful village and the second largest settlement on the Nw part of Skopelos.
The house
Like most of the traditional houses in the village, ours also has Macedonian influences, which you can see in its three-storied construction, tiled roof, wooden balcony and the tiny wc on it, which cannot be used for a shower.
The house, consists of two large living areas (6 x 7m) and a basement.
Through the main door, you enter the ground floor, where you’ll find the living room (which also serves as the dining room) and a double bed with new mattress.
Via an internal wooden staircase, you enter the first floor. On that level, there are two double beds. From this floor, you access the balcony, where you will also find a small Wc. From the balcony, the view to Skiathos, Euboea and Pelion is breathtaking.
Both rooms are wide and the upper one is brighter, but you can use the shutters to create plenty of shade to relax and stay cool during the middle of the day. In the upper floor is available an air-condition.
In the basement, we created a full organized modern kitchen with all the necessary electric appliances, which can be used to prepare full meals in the electric oven or in the traditional way on the fire, as well as a large bathroom. The basement can be accessed both by an outdoor passage via the alley, or internally via a traditional hatch in the ground and a comfortable stair.
Currently, the house does not have Wi-Fi, but the central square is only a short walk away, and there you can find Wi-Fi connections, as well as coffee and well cooked food (accompanied by live music some evenings).
The neighborhood is very peaceful and you will be close to mini markets, grocery shops, the bakery and the pharmacy (all within a 10min distance).
It is a beautiful traditional house, not only in its structure, but also in the way it’s furnished and decorated. You will see from the pictures that it has plenty of charm, and in many ways is the antidote to a modern hotel. It will be appreciated by any visitors that wish to experience a traditional country house, with all its charms and unique aura. It will transport you to another era.
As for Skopelos, the island is ideal for anyone who is passionate about trekking, thanks to the beautiful surroundings that one can enjoy early in the morning or in the evening for sunsets. You can walk to the port of Loutraki along the country path, which is a 30-minute walk through the nearby hills. There is also a great variety of beautiful shores, both organized, as well as pristine and wild. While you’re here, we definitely recommend you taste the famous “loukoumades” (doughnuts) and the traditional fried cheesepie, among other delicacies.
We will also be at your disposal for any assistance needed.
Getting here
Whether you are arriving from the port of Loutraki or the main port of Skopelos situated in Chora (Skopelos), you can reach the house by bus, which will take you to the edge of the village. This runs every 3 hours
Depending on your personal circumstances, we would suggest a car or a motorbike would be the best option. The parking lot is located outside the settlement, around 6-10 minutes depending on your pace. Of course, you can access the next alley up to that of our house by car, and cover the final steps to the residence on foot through the paved stairs (a.k.a “kalnterimia”). However cars cannot be parked in these narrow alleyways, so you would need to take your car back to the parking if you opt for this. Whilst not as inconvenient as it sounds, this access is common to most houses in the village, which was built long before the invention of cars!
Because getting to the house with your rented small car requires knowledge of the village and being familiar to drive in its narrow medieval streets, using a taxi to arrive and depart will help you a lot, with a small cost of just 15 Euros.
We will send you the pin of the position of the house.
The house is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. No fuss, no cars and no noises from the main square. At the afternoon and the evenings we traditionaly seat outside on the stairs of the entrance to enjoy the fruit or our coffee.
Bus stops ("school" and "stavros") are located on the corresponding inputs of the settlement.
With a motorbike you could just get outside of the house.
The car must be parked just outside the village.
Ask the taxi driver to bring you just under the stairs leading to the house .
The house, since 2018 has a new kitchen and new internal stairs to communicate through the 3 stores.
