In 1882 the Caton family settled on a 1000 acre farm. At the turn of the 1900's the family had developed a small town with a grist mill, a general store, a post office and Ed's Mill which was a machine shop. During the depression the US Government purchased most of the Caton farm for the forming of The National Park and the family moved away and the town was abandoned. In the 1950's with the building of Interstate 40, the family returned to their home. The house was turned into a boarding house for the highway workers. When Ed died in 1968 May moved to live with her daughter and the property remained vacant for 18 years. While vacationing in 1986 Ray and Pattie Blackman form Pascagoula, Mississippi discovered the property was for sale and fell in love with he waterfall and the history of the property. They decided to purchase and restore the dilapidated buildings into rental cabins for others to enjoy the majestic beauty thus creating what is now Serenity Falls. The Blackman family decided to retire in 2016 and the Hansen-Marshall Family from Baltimore fell in love and Purchased the property in winter 2016. Ken, a contractor from Baltimore, and Sue, a retired policewoman from Baltimore, are carrying on the legacy of the town and plan to build cabins and host weddings on the remaining 80 acre tract. Ed's Mill has been converted to a two bedroom cabin with a spectacular view of Serenity Falls, the largest privately owned waterfall in Tennessee, from inside the cabin or the covered back porch. If you have more than 6 people in your party you can book The General Store (982931) sleeps 8, Tillie's Stall (982932) sleeps 2, and Will's Barn (982933) sleeps 6. We can accommodate a group up to 22 people. We are dog friendly with an additional fee. Please search by VRBO number to check availability. If you want to hike or just want to enjoy nature we are less than five minutes to the Cosby Campground - Great Smoky Mountains National Park entrance. Let your car rest and relax while you explore and hike to discover parts of history on our 75+ acres.
