Two large bedrooms, a kitchen with fireplace, a rooftop terrace overlooking the valley and your own grape vines shading the front door. It's our little dream home, and we would love to share it with you. Perché Palata? That's the question we are asked all the time. It is peaceful, in the middle of low rolling hills that provide Italy (and the world!) with the best pasta and olive oil around. It's also in the center of a whole host of wonderful, off-the-beaten-path sites that even most Italians are not aware of. It's the place that tourists don't know about. Let's keep it our little secret! We have a lovely two-bedroom home near the largest piazza in this town of 2,000. The one large bath has just been remodeled, the kitchen has been updated, but we have tried to keep the character of a small Italian family home. The living room features a couch and comfortable chair (yes, we have stayed in those places with rock-hard furniture!) a television with digital Italian stations. Want to watch something off the internet? Feel free to log onto our WiFi with a DSL connection to the world. Skype calls, streaming video are no problem. One bedroom is on the main floor, with a queen-sized bed, desk and large wardrobe. The upper bedroom has a queen-sized bed and large wardrobe with a balcony which provides amazing light and cool mountain breezes. And for those days when the breezes are not enough, there is air conditioning to give relief from the heat of summer in both bedrooms. If you want to really enjoy the area, having a car is recommended. If you are adventurous, feel free to park in front of the house. It's a tight fit but fun when you accomplish it! For the less adventurous, we are 20 steps from Piazza San Rocco with easy parking. Driving in Italy is simple, car rental at the airports is simple, the hard part is that there are 20+ directional signs at intersections! Where would you want to go? How about amazing beaches at Termoli or Campomarino? (both less than 30 minutes). Take the ferry out to the Tremiti islands (45 minutes by sea from Termoli), visit the castle and ancient churches of Campobasso (high in the mountains, 45 minute drive) or the Roman ruins of Larino (15 minute drive). Visit the Croatian village of Acquaviva (5 minutes) or Albanian culture in Montecilfone (10 minutes). Every little spot is amazing! How do you get to middle of nowhere, and everything? Palata is about a three hour drive from the Rome airport (assuming traffic in Rome is moving. Rush hour will take longer.) and 90 minutes from the airport in Pescara. Almost all of that is on the Autostrade and the views of the mountains and seas are awesome! These are toll roads, but you can use a credit card (with chip!) to pay if you don't have Euro yet. Pescara (PSR) airport is a stop for Ryanair, so cheap flights into and out of Paris, Milan, Barcelona, London and Frankfurt are possible! Hungry? One of our favorite restaurants in the world is Vecchio Frantoio and is just 100 meters from the front door. A short walk to the edge of town brings you to Altrochè, with a more modern twist on Italian classic food. Bar Frantano serves amazing coffee and hand-made pastries just around the corner on San Rocco. Want to cook? Our full kitchen is prepared with all the equipment you will need. There are two vegetable shops, a mini-market/deli, two bakeries, and a butcher shop all on our regular walking route. If you want to go down to the lower part of town is Bar Oasis, owned by a family that ran a pizzeria in Maryland for ten years, the hardware store, and a couple of more pizzerias. We have a full listing of who to talk to, and what business hours are in the home! Englese? There are several people in town to talk with and help you. Many of the people in Palata have lived and worked in Germany and France, so if your lingua is Duesch or Francais, you will have no problems. The people of Palata are amazing and will want to talk your ear off! Cleaning fee is for check-in and check-out only. No in-stay cleaning is included, but can be arranged if needed. Renter is responsible for their own housekeeping. Cleaning supplies and laundry supplies are available. Palata has a pickup for different types of trash/recycling each day. We have instructions so you can put out the correct can each night for pickup.
