A Far West Texas getaway that offers quiet solitude, a 360 degree vista of the Davis Mountains and a bird’s eye view of Fort Davis. This private Lodge sits on 16 acres at the 5,420’ summit of Scobee Mountain. A short drive down to Fort Davis and another 25 minutes to Marfa and 28 to Alpine. Close to many hiking trails and area attractions. The house, deigned by a local architect and later renovated and furnished by the architect owner. A place of lasting memories. AllWD or 4WD is a must. The top of Mount Scobee offers a 90 mile unobstructed views to the south and a 30-mile panorama to the north. The domes of McDonald Observatory, the lights of Fort Davis, and the road to Balmorhea are all within site. The house is surrounded by the changing light and shadows on the Davis Mountains and along a canyon that is home to hawks and roadrunners. Cool temperates within the house are maintained by a combination of high wooden ceilings, thick plaster walls, operable windows, ceiling fans and mountain breezes. No air-conditioning is necessary, although there are Dyson Fans with a cool mode high clerestory windows that allow the heat to escape. On winter nights, 2 fireplaces, with hand forged screens, keep the house cozy and warm. If more heat is needed there are wall heaters, portable oil filled radiators, and a Dyson hot fan. The well equipped kitchen joins the living and dinning room. The house has an open floor plan with views in every direction. There are Mountain View’s from the walk-in shower or broader views from the outdoor shower. A true getaway that is close to town. The interior finishes and furniture compliment the peaceful surroundings. The house is ideal for a couple, close friends, or one or two children over 10 years old. The openness of the house maximums views but at the same time limits privacy. Along with being on top of a mountain brings areas of steep drops; therefore it is not suitable for mall children.
