Our wheelchair and eco-friendly scenic hide-away, Casa de La Finestra Eco Retreat, with stunning views of the Cirque de La Safor, is named after 'La Finestra', a huge hole in the mountain above the house. The pool garden has an 8x4 m wide 1.5 m deep pool with shallow end steps (it's raised 18cms making it safer for toddlers). It has mosaic shower, cushioned swing-seat in an arbour of bougainvillaea overlooking the pool (so you can sit and read whilst watching the children swim and play), a Spanish tiled BBQ by a shady arbour of honeysuckle and Virginia creeper with an 8 seater picnic table, 5 cushioned sun-loungers, a parasol and a mimosa tree, all accessed by a romantic wooden Japanese bridge from the front Veranda which has an extending alfresco dining table comfortably seating 12. Our villa has 3 double bedrooms (one with childs bed) and a twin bedroom all with fitted wardrobe and drawers. The twin room can be made up as a king sized bed. There is a wheelchair friendly bunkbed room and a wheelchair friendly wet room shower room with laundry facilities. Downstairs there is a 2 bedroomed studio flat (sleeps 3) with kitchenette and wet room shower/utility (extra charge for this and it can only be rented separately when the main house is not let). It is an eco-friendly off grid villa (15 solar panels - all the grey water from the house is used to irrigate the garden) in its own secure grounds, breathtaking panoramic views from a huge kitchen/dining-room with cosy sitting area, with wood burner two sofas (one is a two seater Lazyboy recliner and the other is a large Laura Ashley metal framed sofa bed). There is piano and a CD player and a stereo system you can plug your phone into. Stairs from the kitchen lead down to a traditional paella kitchen. We can arrange for Paella to be cooked for you and the Spanish chef will sing for you on request he's our own local "Elvis" There is another large sitting/dining room with wood-burner, TV with 22 channels in English and a PC, many books and a games table This room leads to a large covered veranda, (overlooking the pool garden) with extending table for alfresco dining and comfortable seating. The children's room has a large bunk bed, toys, and many books . At the back of the house there are secluded terraces, as you go down to the river, featuring 'the Buddha garden' - an outdoor sleeping/cooking area. Here there are lemon, fig, pear, plum, pomegranate, persimmon, walnut, & nispero trees. Our bridge over an acequia (irrigating orange groves) leads through oleander & bamboo to the river Serpis. It's a natural 'adventure playground'; a paradise for fishermen/anglers, ornithologists, botanists, geologists, artists, writers and children. Great for wild swimming, gorge walking and body surfing in the magical waters of the river Serpis. Opposite, orange and almond terraces lead up to Moorish terraces & huge limestone crags. We are eco friendly and have solar panels and organic mature gardens with pomegranate, lemon, plum and fig trees . There are 2 bathrooms in the main house; one has a claw-foot bath with shower taps, a separate shower and a bidet, the other has a wheelchair friendly shower and laundry facilities. There is a shower room, also with laundry facilities, in the studio apartment. We are in a gated hamlet of four houses. There is off road parking for 3 cars, screened from the house by bougainvillaea. Something different - Romance and Adventure : 30 minutes from blue flag, duned, surfing beaches at Gandia & Oliva. We have 7 mountain bicycles, a child seat for a bicycle and a mountain jogging baby buggy available for your use. Nestling in the 'Cirque de La Safor', a breathtaking limestone 'energy vortex', featuring 'La Finestra' (Valenciano for 'the window' - the hole at near top of La Safor 1013m). In great walking, climbing, mountain biking terrain. 'Casa de la Finestra' is approached by a lush, wooded, wildflower strewn, adventurous track. The house stands 20m above the river Serpis (teeming with trout, carp & barbel), as it tumbles out of the wooded gorge of El Raco del Duc; great for wild swimming gorge walking and body surfing. We are on the 'eco-tourist' Via Verdi, a feeder route for the Camino de Santiago de Compostela {you can get your first stamp on your 'Camino' at the local hotel) the disused railway trail from Gandia to Alcoi, mentioned mentioned in 'Lonely Planet Guide' (Gandia). 13km of unsurpassed forested mountain scenery, waterfalls, birds, flora & fauna, limestone crags, following the river's course as it tumbles out of Raco del Duc. A paradise for walkers & cyclists of ALL abilities, anglers, bird watchers, botanists, geologists, climbers, mountaineers, cavers and don't forget children! (Golf course, 10km away - Oliva Nova, designed by Sevi Balasteros. Near by are warm volcanic bathing springs at Font Salada) All will find this area spellbinding, exhilarating and unique. Flora & Forna: Sit in the comfort of the 'panorama' kitchen and count kingfishers, egrets and purple herons; daily visitors! Marvel at the antics of crag martins, swallows & bats as they admire their reflections in the windows and the pool. Watch out for golden oriels, hoopoes, red kites, peregrines and eagles. At night, framed in the arches of the kitchen windows, the sun sets over El Raco Del Duc and the moon rises. You'll be enthralled by the chorus of frogs and cicadas and enchanted by the song of the nightingale. Pine martens, badgers, wild boar and squirrels are native here. Butterflies, insects, lizards and geckos will delight you. Walking along the disused railway trail, you will discover a myriad of flowers you're used to seeing cultivated in gardens, here, they're wild, as nature intended, orchids, hyacinths, lilies, succulents, cacti, sweet peas, fennel, thyme, rosemary, cistus, lillies, bamboo & oleander. Here we have a breathtaking diversity of flora, fauna & geology second to none. History: We are in the Natural Park of El Raco del Duc, the Via Verdi (see Google), 'the retreat of the Duke', the father of Lucretia Borgia & grandfather of the Borgia Pope. 'The cirque de La Safor', a huge limestone crater, featuring 'La Finestra', an enormous hole in the mountain, said to be an energy vortex, is right outside our door. It is laced with Neolithic caves, containing paintings and artefacts, mineral water springs and refugios. The view is stupendous. The disused railway from the Ducal town of Gandia to Alcoi, was built by the British to bring coal from Newcastle, to fuel the textile industry. Only the flat wooded path remains, punctuated by five exciting tunnels, ideal for cycling and walking for ALL abilities. We have Seven mountain bicycles here for your use. Following the river Serpis, ten minutes walk from the house is a magical place, the shrine of 'Mare de Deu de la Font', a pilgrimage site where a 15 century wood cutter, discovered a wooden casket floating upstream. Inside he found a statue of the Virgin. Below the crags are lagoons to fish, jump and swim in or just float in the healing waters among fish, birds and flowers, swim endlessly against the current. A tile in our kitchen depicts the scene and every May an extraordinary sand picture is made on the floor of her church in the nearby town of Villalonga for her festival. Looking for something more intrepid? You only need to wander off the track to discover routes up the mountain, walking and bouldering up to 'Font de la Mata' and 'La Finestra' and La Safor itself (1013m). Serious climbers will not be disappointed. Near by Marxuquera (Gandía) offers pitches up to the most challenging. A short cycle or car ride takes you to our own 'sleeping dragon', Mt. Benicadell (1104m), a ridge climb, an incredible sight in the sunset, viewed from the refugio of Font Dels Olbits on La Safor....
