The scent of lavender drifts in the charming sash windows of the LIVING ROOM and KITCHEN. You can also see the pool, lawn and hummocks and beyond that the foothills of Griffith Park and the horse trails of Mount Hollywood. The room is light and airy with terra-cotta tile floor. The huge couch fills the space, defined by the curved moldings and whitewashed walls. The 32" TV has both digital cable and Apple TV. The Moroccan lights and original art make Dillard's Pool House perfect for relaxing after a long day and splash in the pool. The kitchen is small but functional with a dishwasher, stove, oven, sink and such. Dillard's Pool House is in the heart of the estate with the salt water pool and hot tub on your doorstep. Named after one of Bette Davis' favorite leading men; Preston Dillard played by Henry Fonda in the famous 1938 movie Jezebel. A patterned couch on the VERANDA looks out to a field of French Lavender planted as a maze to walk through. The large, drought tolerant organic garden is an oasis. The blue of the pool in the lush green lawn. Then the yellow of the flowing ornamental grasses, it feels like the dunes at the beach. The BEDROOM has air conditioning and a queen bed and comfy headboard; perfect to tuck in to a juicy novel or a late night movie on the Apple TV at the foot of the bed. The light from the Moroccan lamp patterns the walls. It has plenty of closet space and a desk to write letters home on. The BATHROOM is huge. Large enough to entertain in while you lounge in the bathtub! There is a washing machine and a dryer, although in Southern California the clothes dry just as fast on the rack as in the machine. The estate has a number of houses available through VRBO. The interior space is exclusive to this listing. The exterior is shared with the other guests staying in the houses on the estate. All the houses on the estate enjoy massive organic gardens, almost half acre of garden with an abundance of butterflies and birds. The lawn surrounds the saltwater pool and spa, fire pit and grill and of course the horse stables where Our horses Griffin and Summer live. The art studio is also under the arches of the barn at the far end of the estate. Please don't let the rural setting and the hooting of the owls fool you, we are still in the heart of the city and you should be aware that you can sometimes hear the freeway, helicopters, dogs and sirens typical of city living. Named after Margo Channing, Bette Davises’ larger than life character in All About Eve 1951; The grounds are large enough that the house is private. With the added bonus of friends and fellow travelers nearby to make friends with; it is fun to meet others who are on a similar journey to you. You may interact with them under a tree in the afternoon or the kids may play on the lawn. It is helpful that I am right here to answer questions or fix anything that may arise. Other things to note: We charge a high cleaning fee. This is for the standard cleaning that we do before each guest and the small repairs, repainting, replacing damaged furniture, rugs, upholstery and minor fixes. We all break things and spill. It isn't very pleasant to have a lovely holiday only to get in to the nitty gritty of broken glasses or wall scratches at the end of it. These things happen and the second half of the cleaning fee goes toward the repairman. We do not host parties. I live on the property and the grounds and shared space is monitored 24/7. We also have recording security cameras. Getting Around: Nobody walks in LA... you can, but people don't. They drive to Griffith Park and hike. One can walk to many restaurants. Because we are in the midst of many of the studios, Uber and Lyft cruise the area, you can get a ride in minuets any time of day. We are very close to 5 and 134 freeways for easy access to most of LA and the valley. We have great bus and train access, but again, people in LA drive. You can also bike. There are dedicated lanes on the road and along the river, or you can ride a horse here! You can book a ride from Sunset Ranch
