McCloud, CA is a magical little historic town at the base of Mt. Shasta. It was a company town until 1963, but despite the demise of "Mother McCloud" it still retains an air of timelessness. We are surrounded by miles of diverse natural wonders that allow for endless ways to enjoy the outdoors, drink some of the best water on earth, know our neighbors and easily walk to the market, post office, restaurants and bars. Post-Covid times are beginning and hopefully our wonderful festivals will return. Our home is 2 blocks off of the main street, has views of Mt. Shasta from the front yard and from a brick patio in the back yard. The house has two stories, with the master bedroom on the first floor. An L-shaped floor plan gives the bottom level an open and spacious feel. The kitchen has been remodeled but still has the original cabinets and is well-equipped, as we like to cook. The bathroom on this floor has a beautiful, tiled shower. On the second level are two bedrooms and a full bath with a claw foot tub. There is ample storage space, as the previous owner added lots of cabinets and built-ins. (The master bedroom has a large, walk-in closet). I ran a successful vacation rental in Dunsmuir, Butterfly Cottage, for almost 4 years. I recently sold it and am moving the piano, phonograph and records up to this home. I also have a well-stocked book shelf with many weeks/months worth of quality reading material. Depends how fast you read... Ours is one of the few houses in town with a 1/4 acre lot. It is completely fenced, with three separate areas. Dog owners love this, as well as the dog door on the back door. There is a deck off the back of the house, a new brick patio and lovely landscaping. A small front porch has seating for 4 (including a porch swing) and is the perfect place to wave to passerbys. Yes, McCloud shares similarities to Star's Hollow:) At night in the summer, it's safe to open windows and catch the cool breezes off the mountain. The first person up in the morning shuts up the house and the bottom floor almost always stays cool. There is a portable window AC for upstairs. We usually don't need it, but it's there in case one does. I also have two quality portable air filters for the occasional smoke that everywhere in the west now experiences. As in the cities, it comes and goes, so having cleaner air in one's home space is a good thing. I recently bought a home on the East Coast and am planning to split my time between there and McCloud. I'm looking for guests who want to really get to know this area and experience it as a local does...that might mean an extended vacation or a work from home situation. For those who need to check in to work on occasion, McCloud is 3 1/2 hours from Sacramento, less than 4 1/2 to San Francisco and less than 5 hours to San Jose. Our internet is good and we use Zoom and other video platforms successfully. If you are interested, I know we would need to discuss particulars, as this is a different type of scenario from most vacation rentals. The pricing could be dependent on how long you would want to stay. I'm looking for people who would respect my home while enjoying a prolonged get-away. I have good neighbors and love this community so I would want to have people in my home who would appreciate the experience of living in a little village. Please feel free to get in touch.
