This newly renovated, fully furnished, one bedroom cottage is located in Highland, NY, which is a central location to access all of the prime features of the Hudson Valley. Perfect for a couple on a weekend or week getaway anytime of the year! (We can also accommodate a young child).
The cottage sits on one acre and joins another 9 acres of wood and meadow
with paths for strolling. Guests are welcome to stroll anywhere on the ten acres. Whether you are interested in a lazy day in the meadow or exploring the many historic sites, museums, wineries, nature or athletic adventures, antiques, culinary gems, river mansions, rail trails, waterways; this lovely guest cottage is the perfect location.
The cottage is a 4-minute drive to the “Walkway Over The Hudson”, the spectacular walkway 200 feet above the Hudson River with the glass viewing elevator. We have 2 adult bicycles for your use or bring your rollerblades or skateboard and head out over the river!
Afterwards, make your way downhill for a picnic at the Highland Riverfront park or one of the eateries on the river. The “Walkway Over The Hudson” also connects to miles of scenic rail trails through other Hudson Valley towns.
Speaking of cuisine, Highland is 15 minutes from the famous “Culinary Institute of America” in Hyde Park. You will find great food in local restaurants as well as 30 wineries, breweries, cider and whiskey distilleries nearby. Don’t want to eat out? The cottage has a full kitchen. This area has many local farms selling produce, meats and artisanal products not to mention the Hannaford’s Supermarket 3 minutes away.
Outdoor adventure includes kayaking through the Black Creek waterways,
rock climbing in the Shawagunks, skydiving in Gardiner, whitewater tubing down the Esopus River, horseback riding and much more. Cross-country skiing is right here and downhill skiing is under an hour’s drive. Zip lining is an hour away on Hunter Mountain. You can explore the caves in Rosendale. If you are more of a traditionalist, you can golf, bike or hike. Go ice-skating at Mohunk Mountain House’s ice rink or hiking in Minnewaska State Park.
Indoor adventure includes exploring the many Gilded Age mansions on the Hudson River and open to the public. There are fine museums on the campuses of West Point, Vassar, Marist and SUNY colleges. There is live theatre at Vassar’s Powerhouse Theatre. In the summer, check out the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Company. There are great buys at local antique stores and boutiques in New Paltz and Kingston or on the other side of the river in Hyde Park and Rhinebeck.
