Avoid the commotion, traffic, and stress associated with bigger city attractions as you and your family relax in the warm sun on your own lakefront property. Of course for those interested in a larger city beaches, charter fishing trips, and attractions, you should know that Ludington, Manistee, Traverse City, and Frankfurt attractions are all only around one hour away. Stay on Big Lake and plan a day trip with the family to save big! The average cost of even a basic, cramped hotel room for 4 in these cities is comparable to what you can get here. Big Lake is a 240 acre all sport, spring fed lake known for its clean, deep waters. It is a popular spot for local fishermen looking for panfish, bass, walleye, and pike. The lake hosts several fishing tournaments throughout the spring and summer months. Aside from fishing, the lake is famous for it's beautiful wildlife including numerous Loons, trumpeter swans, and you can often watch bald eagles searching for breakfast while you sit on the covered porch and enjoy the quiet sunrise with your morning coffee! Summer on Big Lake however is all about water sports including jetskiing, tubing, waterskiing, wakeboarding and more. Big Lake is considered one of MidMichigan's best kept secrets as even a "busy traffic" day on the lake would be considered quiet compared to other lakes in the area! Guests interested in bringing their own boat/jetski/waverunner can easily launch from the public boat launch which is located walking distance (exactly one mile) from the cottage. During your stay, your boat can safely be kept along the extended dock and/or beach area where you will find available boat bumpers and tie downs for your convenience. The property has 4 available kayaks/paddles for guests to use as well as numerous life jackets for safety. Stand up paddlebaord is also available for use. Adult guests planning to fish should bring their own fishing tackle and gear to ensure familiarity and consistent/proper use. There will be 2-3 available fishing poles on site with some basic tackle supplies. Use of fishing equipment among children requires parental supervision. Please report any damage/malfunction to fishing poles so that we may repiar/replace prior to future guest usage. When it's time to get off the water you can plan to enjoy the sunset and incredible night sky which fills with stars as soon as the sun goes down. You won't see stars like this in the city! Enjoy your families company as you sit around the fire pit telling scary campfire stories--and don't be surprised if you hear the howling of coyotes in the distance. Guests should plan to bring firewood and/or purchase from local stores in Sears. The property is located at 5359 North shore Drive. It is a 1200 square foot, 3 bedroom, one full bath home. The main floor features a fully functioning laundry room, full bathroom with shower/tub, two 10x12 bedrooms with queen beds and available dresser/closet storage. The large open living room features a couch and three comfy sitting chairs adjacent to an electric fireplace with excellent view of the lake! There is available flatscreen television and Blu Ray player for entertainment however the cottage does have local WIFI (summer only) however there is not capacity to allow video streaming, YouTube video watching via TV etc. During the fall/winter months, Wi-Fi services will be unavailable. There is no cable TV hook up —remember vacations are for relaxing and “unplugging from the busy working world"! The open living room flows into the kitchen which includes an available gas stove/oven, microwave, refrigerator and contains full service dishware, silverware and more. The upstairs loft area features approximately 500 square feet of space which is PERFECT for the kids---particularly when its bedtime and the adults aren't quite ready to call it a night! Featuring two queen beds, two twin loft beds, a couch With pull out full sized bed and sitting chair, the kids will love their personal space away from mom and dad as they play board games,or maybe watch a movie on yet another flatscreen/DVD player. HDMI cables are available for anyone interested in bringing their own personal gaming systems. Two portable room air conditioning units are set up and available for use as well as numerous ceiling and room fans as needed. Our absolute favorite area at the cottage is the screened in patio area and adjacent large open deck at the rear of the home. This area features an additional 400 square feet of sitting and entertaining space with an open view of the entire lake. Facing directly east, you will love the beautiful sunrise as the fog rolls off the water after a cool summer night. The patio and deck area features numerous sitting chairs, available tables for gaming, two patio table and chair sets which will allow plenty of relaxed seating for the family to enjoy. There is also a small outdoor refrigerator to keep your cold drinks close at hand and ready to replenish your cooler as you spend the day on the water. Outdoors and overlooking the lake you will find several Adirondack chairs for comfortable sitting and sunbathing, a comfy fire pit (wood not provided) and a cozy hammock perfectly placed under a shade tree overlooking the lake. There is NO need to make any other plans than to relax and enjoy. However, if you do find yourself looking for additional activities, below is a list of some of our favorites: Golfing: There are literally dozens of popular golf courses in the area with championship courses such as Tullymore, St. Ives Golf Course, Bucks Run Golf Club, Eagle Glen, Pohlcat Golf Course, and many more within 45 minutes from the lake. Local favorite for our family includes Birch Valley Golf Course which is less than 3 miles away and children 12 and under golf for FREE. Guests interested in golfing should plan to bring their own clubs. River Tubing/Canoing via local outfitter in Evart which will set you up for a trip down the scenic Muskeegon River. There is a local rail trail which runs through Sears (2 miles from cottage) and literally connects the cities of Midland and Reed City! Bring your bike, running shoes, or roller blades and enjoy the fresh morning air as you take some time for yourself and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Tour the beautiful city of Evart and surrounding villages which feature numerous Amish homes and businesses. Local food favorites include Mishler's Drive In and Pompai's Pizzeria in Downtown Evart. Just to reiterate as there was some miscommunication in the past, there is only one full bathroom on this property. During the summer months, there will be available Wi-Fi however the available data does not support streaming of movies or videos. There is currently not a boat for rent on this property. There is a local campsite which does rent metal fishing boats for a very low cost per day. Property will provide limited paper towels, toilet paper and bath towels for indoor use only. Guest should plan to bring their own beach towels. Laundry detergent/dryer sheets are available. The Water system is filtered however there is a 5 gallon cooler available. Guests who prefer bottled water should bring a 5 gallon jug for use during their stay.
