The kitchen more than exceeds expectations for a rental property. It has been fitted out by the owner, a gastronomic chef who previously worked for 20 years at Le Vieux Castillon in the village, a highly acclaimed hotel in this department of the Languedoc. The wife of the owner is an interior designer and both of the couple's expertise is very much in evidence. The spa they have built on the lower garden level of the house is the perfect addition to this property to offer a holiday of comfort and well being. There is a sauna, a jacuzzi, a hammam (wet steam room), and shower facilities. A music centre and a perfume diffuser complete this very special place to retreat to for a little self indulgence. Bedrooms are all tastefully finished in soft neutral colours with TVs receiving English and French channels. Bedroom 1: A double bed, TV, and en suite bathroom and washbasin/toilet. Bedroom 2: This second room has floor to ceiling wardrobe and shelves. Again, soft neutral colours and also a TV in this room. There is a double bed and also an en suite shower room hand built using the local soft rounded pebbles washed down the Rhone river, plus toilet and washbasin. Bedroom 3: a double bed set in a room with pretty view including the aqueduct. This room also has a tastefully designed bathroom comprising toilet and washbasin. Bedroom 4 set at the lower garden level and can be accessed via the main house or from the garden. This is similar to a deluxe studio as it has a small kitchen, bedroom, bathroom with 2 washbasins. A tower in the villa is ideal as an office space if one of the rental group needs to stay in touch with business personnel. (There is also a sofa bed in this room 140cms wide that could be used to avoid disrupting the rest of the house if you need to work or if a friend comes to spend a few days with you). There is a swimming pool 5m x4m. There is a protective roller shutter across the pool as security. The pool is heated from April to September. It is possible to request a heated pool outside of the these months for a price supplement. GARDEN and TERRACES: The garden has been beautifully planted with olive trees, oleander, lavender and other Mediterranean trees and shrubs. The owners have also created a petanque court. There is an upper terrace leading out from the salon and facing directly onto the Pont du Gard. Here is a generous and comfortable seating area and also full dining facilities including a gas Weber barbecue. This terrace measures 40 m2. A lower terrace is accessed via the garden or from the lower bedroom and is 15 m2. MOBILITY IMPAIRED INFORMATION: Once in the house, there are bedrooms, toilets, kitchen and sitting room all on ground level. To access the house from the garden, there two steps. Not all doorways are wheelchair suitable owing to dimensions. PARKING: There is a covered car port plus an enclosed drive area that an take a further 2 vehicles. PETS: One dog can be accepted with prior notification. THE VILLAGE: Castillon du Gard is a pretty, hilltop village, with houses made of the local attractive limestone that gives a beautiful golden yellow colour to the buildings and typical of many of the villages in this area. It is a perfect to leave the property and wander on foot to take in the history of the old ramparts, the pretty cobbled streets, a windmill, the roman chapel and the church tower. The villa is 700 metres from the village shops and weekly market. There is a stunning viewpoint that allows you to look over the valley and directly onto the World Heritage awarded site of the Pont du Gard (the iconic roman aqueduct). This is also clearly visible from the terrace of the villa and the sitting room. Castillon is also on the doorstep of Uzes, the popular medieval town that offers one of the South of France’s best street markets. This area is known for its cultural, sporting and relaxing qualities. It is has inspired artists who have captured the area e.g. Van Gogh, Monet and Cezanne. The quarry under Les Baux de Provence has an annual light show where the great masters are reflected throughout the quarry. It is a highlight absolutely not to be missed. Nature lovers can go for breathtaking hikes in the Cevennes or in the Gorges du Gardon – also a bit further away on Mont Ventoux. You can stay within close proximity of the village and take in the many interesting towns and sites or drive to the coast for a day by the beach (approximately 45 minutes). For a vastly different landscape, an hour will take you to the salt marshes, flamingoes, white horses and bulls of the Camargues area. The Cevennes hills are to the north of Castillon and perfect for autumn rentals to admire the changing trees and collect chestnuts on the roadside.
