1 Bedroom Cottage in Crossing Rocks
PARROTS PERCH in Long Beach, South Abaco is a charming cottage 5mins walk from the most beautiful secluded beach on Abaco. Flocks of the Abaco Parrots and a pinky white soft sand beach are your daily intake at this amazing off the beaten path location. Parrots Perch Cottage is 30/45mns drive (30 miles) from Marsh-Harbour international airport, 15/20mns drive from Sandy Point (very south tip of Great Abaco) and 20/25mns drive from Little Harbour and Cherokee. And 5 miles from the northern edge of the ABACO NATIONAL PARK, habitat and nesting area for the protected Abaco Parrots. A car rental is highly recommended. PARROTS PERCH at LONG BEACH is very spacious, bright and airy. It has high ceiling, AC, lot of screened doors and ceiling fans in all the rooms. The master bedroom has French sliding windows opening on a pergola patio. The bathroom is on the other side of the corridor in front of the master bedroom. The living area is a large open space with a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area and a living area, During the day, we love to open all screen doors and let the sea breeze come in. It is gorgeous and you can hear the surf from home. You may need the AC only during summer nights. I lived in Parrots Perch many summers and never used the AC but I am European. My American husband on the contrary like the AC during the hot summer nights. You have the choice. There is a big load washing machine in the laundry cabinet (on the side of the dining area) and we have European style "open air dryer" in the back garden. It is more fun and the laundry smells divine. There is the possibility to have a third person sleeping in the living room (very comfortable single bed which we use as a daybed or sofa). Before your arrival, a super sized hammock (2persons+ Pawleys Island Presidential) is installed in the shade of the beautiful umbrella tree. This is our favorite spot to watch the birds (the Abaco Parrots, hummingbirds, flycatchers, woodpeckers, herons…). There is also a NagsHead hammock chair under the pergola in the bedroom patio. Perfect spot to enjoy an evening drink and listen to the surf. We provide as well several folding beach chairs which you can use around the yard and of course bring to the beach, together with an umbrella. Please use the outdoor shower in the back garden to sand off after the beach. You will want to use it as a regular shower anyway (hot and cold water) as it is just delightful:) Please rinse the chairs coming back from the beach and keep them stored inside when not in use. Thank you:) Everything is provided for your comfort, all cotton luxury bedding, bath towels, beach towels... In the laundry cabinet, you will also find a beach umbrella, boogie boards, coolers... Over 280 birds species have been recorded on the island of Abaco. Long Beach with the Abaco National Park about 5 miles away, and being surrounded by a deserted coastline, unspoiled native woodlands and coppice (including large natural ponds) and miles of mangroves wetlands, attracts lot of birds species and migrants as well. Last but not least, fishing enthusiasts would like to know that there is a walkable bone fishing flat half a mile down the road. Guest Access We live in Charleston South Carolina. Parrots Perch in Abaco is our holiday home. During your stay, the all house and property is yours. Tranquillity and total privacy. Interaction with Guests We are always available to answer any questions regarding Parrots Perch, your trip, the island, etc. We are both very passionate about the Abacos. Robert has been traveling there extensively since 2000. I lived and worked on the island for 3 amazing years and Parrots Perch has been our island home since 2007. KENTRELL WALKER, your island host, will be your local contact during your stay at Parrots Perch. Kentrell works part time at the Delphi Club and lives in Crossing Rock (3mns drive from Parrots Perch) with her husband Marvin and her 4 children. The Neighborhood LONG BEACH is approx. 30 miles (35-40mins drive) SOUTH of Marsh Harbour (Abaco main city & main airport). It is just in-between Schooner Bay community and the native village of Crossing Rocks. Long Beach is secluded and off the beaten path. It is absolute paradise when your dream is about tranquillity, a spectacular beach and beautiful nature. Island Home community (the only community on Long Beach) is gorgeous and extremely friendly. Very few houses and all home owners in love with the place and respectful of its beauty. Getting Around DRIVING DIRECTION FROM MARSH HARBOUR AIRPORT TO LONG BEACH: When you exit the airport lane, you get on a big roundabout, take the 4th exit onto Great Abaco Highway and keep driving on this highway for 45kms (30 miles) or about 35/40mns direction Sandy Point (south). Island Home at Long Beach is just in-between Schooner Bay and Crossing Rocks. When you pass Schooner Bay, you are just one minute away further on the highway from Island Home portico entrance. Parrot Perch is the second house on your right. RENTING A CAR IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for a stay at Parrots Perch. Example: RENTAL WHEELS in Marsh Harbour (They bring your car to the airport, etc.) Other Things to Note FRESH PRODUCE & GROCERY: Our routine, when we arrive on the island is to go to one of Marsh Harbour supermarkets (Maxwells, Abaco Groceries) and buy the basics we will need during our stay. For the rest of the stay there are small grocery shops in Crossing Rock (5mns drive) and largest one in Sandy Point (20mns drive) and in Cherokee (25mns drive). Small but you can buy all basics there (even frozen meat, eggs, etc.) TAKE AWAY: JUDY'S TAKE-AWAY - Crossing Rock (5mns from Parrot Perch) Every time we are on island, we have to go to Judy's. Order the day before and she will get fresh fish, lobster (in season), conch "catch of the day". We always get the conch salad, conch fritters, the macaroni and the lime pie... FINE DINING & LUNCH: 1- THE DELPHI CLUB (15mns from Parrot Perch) Gorgeous antebellum style mansion on a ridge. Great culinary experience and extensive wine menu. Reservations must be made before 12-noon on the day and are subject to availability. The best grilled fish on the island! BARS 1- THE SAND PIPER AT SCHOONER BAY It’s a beautiful little bar, Hemingway style:) it is connected to the restaurant and the little pool. 2- PETE’S PUB AND GALLERY - LITTLE HARBOUR Pete’s Pub is a landmark on Abaco. It was lately featured on Garden & Gun magazine as the “Perfect Summer Southern Watering Hole”. Spend the day! The fish is delicious and you can visit Cherokee that same day. 3- LAZY DAZE - SANDY POINT Raft Bar and Conch kitchen on the water. Lot of fun! Open every day except Monday 4- And of course, NANCY’S in SANDY POINT GAS STATION: The closest gas station is in Sandy Point (20mns drive south of LongBeach) or Cherokee (25mns drive). “NO NAME CAY” SWIMMING PIGS: If you’re traveling by private vessel, No Name Cay is a quick, easy trip south from Green Turtle Cay or north from Treasure Cay. As you approach the northwest end of No Name, you’ll spot the water tank and signs. If you don’t have access to a vessel, some of the local tour operators now offer trips to No Name Cay. They include: • Sunset Marine (Green Turtle Cay) • Brendal’s Dive Center (Green Turtle Cay) • Bahamas Adventure Tours (Treasure Cay) FISHING & BONEFISHING: There is a walking distance bonefishing flat on the marks side of Long Beach. If you like a local guide, I highly recommend Tony: TONY RUSSELL (Crossing Rocks) (Lobster in season, Grouper, Yellow Tail, Snapper...) Tony is a professional fishing instructor at Delphi Club. He lives with his wife and children in Crossing Rocks (5mns from Parrots Perch). ABACO'S MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY, MARSH HARBOUR The museum is located at the Abaco offices of the AMMC and Friends of the Environment.
