Positive: The appartment is completely charming, being a long cellar beautifully converted to a living machine. A huge, comfortable bed, a seating area and dining table, neat kitchenette and good bathroom all in a generous space. In the heat of 2025, it was a wecoming cool space. Paola, my hostess gives a charming and attentive welcome, using the translative skills of her neice (Aure?). The location is a delight, just off the main street of this extraordinary medieaval town. So all the attractions are on the doorstep, but remember that Gubbio is on a hillside, so some of the alleys are steep!
Negative: This is a very difficult section for me to write. So much was so good about O Rosa Bella but the stay was marred for me by the very bad behaviour of a neighbour's dogs. The two large Alsation type dogs were barely under the control of their owner. Apart from barking aggressively every time I came or went, one of them made to attack me three times before being pulled away by the owner and on another occasion the other dog, the quieter of the two, came right up to me when I was having my lunch in the garden and stole the bread right off my plate. Additionally, I was awoken at 3.00am by their barking on one night. I realise that Paola is not in any way to blame for these animals as they are the resposibility of the neighbour, but I was so disturbed by their potential for damage that I left the property a day early. Until some accommodation has been reached concerning the dogs, I cannot recommend O Rosa Bella to those of a nervous disposition.
