The Beach Castle is one of the oldest and most remarkable landmarks on Wellfleet Bay. It is located at the end of coveted Chequesset Neck Bluff and sits directly upon one of the best beaches in all of Cape Cod. The beach is fine, clean, unusually warm, and calm [read: wave-free]. In addition to the swim beach it also uniquely enjoys a fun inlet that fills up and empties the neighboring salt marsh at high tide. Armies of fiddler crabs, squadrons of tiger minnows, and super warm water make it a perfect beach experience for the littlest kids. Being a half mile away from a public beach allows profound privacy too. Yet there is one quality that makes Wellfleet beaches particularly special; the tide. It is why Wellfleet oysters are world renown for being especially delicious and also makes for indelible memories for kids who explore the flats and can find live horseshoe and spider crabs, as well as clams, oysters, scallops and who knows. The house includes 6 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It is a classic beach house [SPOILER ALERT] not a fancy post-modern luxury house. Yet it includes a good sized 'open' kitchen with gas on an island, a large original oak dining table that comfortably seats 12, and the most unforgettable open porch where upon it is customary to suck down famous oysters grown and/or (picked up from) beach! Each of the 6 bedrooms each has its own unique character and charm but the best room is by far the tower! The Tower Room has a dome wood ceiling with 24 individual windows that span 300 degrees and enjoy both the best views as well as the best "zzz"s in Wellfleet (anywhere? I'd argue). The Tower is small and circular with two twin beds. Descend the Tower to the: The Lower Tower room is semi-circular, a little larger than the Tower above and has one smallish window towards the beach. It has a queen bed and is open to the private stairs that ascend to the Tower therefore it is traditionally used by parents of young kids sleeping above or older kids in a larger family. Down the hall from the Lower Tower is: The Family Room, an oversized bedroom that is our "master suite". It sits over top the Front Porch and has a large bank of windows that overlook the ocean and gets fantastic salty breezes. King sized bed with two twins that can be used for young kids and toddlers or not used at all. Top of the Stairs Room is, well, located at the top of the stairs. It is small but kids love it b/c it has a single twin with a trundle bed that pulls out. It is slightly sunken (2 stairs) with a sloped roof that has a skylight right over the bed so you can look out it as you lie in bed. The Front Room, not to be confused with the Front Porch (which is under the Family Room) is very wide and is at the end of the "L" shaped hall. It is adjacent to the upstairs bathroom and has windows that face the garden by the entrance to the house. It has a queen sized bed with a twin. Downstairs Room was added when my grandparents became too old to go up the stairs. It has a large queen bed and its own sunny balcony that overlooks the salt marsh and is perfect for cocktails when the Front Porch becomes too blowy. It has its own entrance to the downstairs bathroom and shower. Other nooks and notables include the "Tiger Corner", a 'built in' corner seat in the living room loaded with pillows and often used for reading or snoozing. The "goodnight window", an original 'cut-out' window halfway up the stairs that has been used as a way for the entire family to send their kids up to bed all while feeling as special and loved as they really are.
