We invite you to stay with us in a one of a kind historic home here on beautiful South Padre Island! The Turtle House was formerly owned by Ila Fox Loetscher "The Turtle Lady of South Padre", founder of the well known non-profit organization and tourist attraction, Sea Turtle Inc. Before starting Sea Turtle, Inc. Ila served as the first female pilot to be licensed in Iowa and Illinois and was a correspondent of Amelia Earhart. The former pilot fell in love with sea turtles after caring for them as a volunteer in Mexico in 1965 and brought her love for them back to South Padre Island where she continued to care for her beloved sea turtles from her home!
Ila's home was recently purchased and renovated by South Padre Island locals, and fans of Ila and her work. The home was renovated in 2020 to restore its coastal charm and showcases many relics of Ila's extraordinary life. The 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom private home sits directly across from the beach on Gulf Blvd and can accommodate up to 12 guests. The ground floor features two bedrooms, each with a Queen size bed and flat-screen TV. Each bedroom has an attached private bathroom with a shower. The ground floor also entails an entertainment space/game room with a foosball table and two additional twin beds for guests! Upstairs you'll find the main level of the home, a very spacious open concept kitchen, living and dining room that is bright and inviting. The kitchen is fully stocked with cook and dish-ware needed to make delicious home-cooked meals and features a gorgeous center island bar that expands the width of the kitchen. Guests have ample seating around the flat-screen TV in the living room and between the dining table and bar seating. Step outside on the private beach facing balcony and enjoy views of the ocean while you drink your morning coffee and evening cocktails, or just to enjoy the sea breeze!
Upstairs, you will also find the 3rd and 4th guest bedrooms. Each of the bedrooms features a Full-size bed and a loft with Twin size bed. A guest bathroom with a combination bathtub and shower is shared between the bedrooms and common areas on the second floor. There is also a balcony just off the kitchen equipped with a BBQ grill.
