Mulberry House, a Grade II listed house from the 1600s, exhibits character with exposed timbers, open studwork, sash windows, fireplaces, and high ceilings that add light and space. Located on a generous plot in a picturesque village on the Essex/Suffolk border, it's close to a charming village greensward and public house.
The accommodation in the main house is arranged over three storeys. An impressive entrance hall leads onto an elegant drawing room, sitting room and dining room all with beautiful views over the grounds. An extremely high quality kitchen/breakfast room includes various appliances including two ovens, induction hob, two dishwashers, microwave combi and a fridge/freezer. Semi-open plan to the breakfast area is a snug with a large inglenook fireplace with a wood burning stove perfect for a cosy evening in. To the rear is a boot room and also on the ground floor is a cloakroom and boiler room. Upstairs, on the first floor are five bedrooms plus a further reception room/study. The principal suite and second bedroom both enjoy en-suites with a further well appointed bathroom including both a bath and a shower to serve the remaining rooms. Upstairs, on the second floor is a further bedroom, additional bathroom and a cinema room with projector and a digital library with a variety of films ready to watch.
Outside, the property is approached through electrically operated white gothic gate, to drive and carriage circle with automatic electric gate to the Out drive.
The gardens are a genuine delight and measure over 4 acres in total. Formal gardens surround the property and include a staggering variety of specimen trees and sprawling expanses of lawn. There is a beautiful walled garden which has been planted with many colourful flowers and plants. Double doors lead into a stunning garden room which is equipped with it’s own kitchen/bar area with a huge range of windows allowing for plenty of light, limestone flooring and space to dine. There is the further benefit of a separate building containing laundry appliances and a gardeners cloakroom.
Secluded within the grounds is a timber built ‘roundhouse’ with ambient lighting and a stage for anybody feeling brave enough to put on a show! Adjacent to the roundhouse is a memorial garden with numerous sculptures and features. Around the property is a suite of external lighting which provides a warm glow in the evenings. Please note that should the main house and the cottage be occupied simultaneously by different parties, the enjoyment of the grounds will be shared and so we ask that all guests remain respectful of everybody’s privacy and keep noise to a minimum. Guests occupying the main house will have exclusive use of the walled garden.
Belchamp St Paul is a beautiful village characterised by its period architecture and open green areas and is surrounded by stunning countryside with many public footpaths. Only a stones throw away is The Half Moon Inn which is a charming thatched building on the green which serves food and drinks with a traditional atmosphere. The nearby town of Clare is Suffolk’s smallest and contains a variety of amenities including a grocery store, a number of independent shops and cafes, a country park and some takeaway restaurants. Also close by are Long Melford with it’s stunning village green, two stately homes and host of amenities as well as the market town of Sudbury with a train station to London Liverpool Street in around 1h20minutes.
