Morton Cottage is set in the stunning gardens of "Netherhall" (c.1903). The cottage used to be an artist studio, and prior to that, a barn. The garden has been lovingly preserved in the style of the era in the planting selection and 'Edna Walling-esque' design. Classic comfort meets modern rustic, with quality linen, furnishings and decor, exposed beams in the cathedral ceiling, and French doors opening on to your verandah. There is a faux wood gas fire in the lounge. Curl up on the couch in front of the fire and pour yourself a good local drop. Read that book. Write that song. The bedroom is a mezzanine loft overlooking the generously-proportioned lounge. The cosy queen bed has very comfy electric blankets. The bedroom has a bird's eye view over the garden. The bathroom also has a garden view. There is a clawfoot bath and a range of additives to try while you soak out your stress. The floor is of Himalayan sandstone, with fossils visible. Of course, towels provided. The fully-equipped kitchen has a gas cooktop, microwave oven and slow cooker. Condiments, milk and oil are provided and there is a grocery store on the next block next to the petrol station. Wander the gardens, listen to the birdsong. Watch for king parrots, crimson rosellas, bowerbirds, whipbirds, and eastern spinebills. The cottage has DVDs, CDs and many paperbacks (if you start one, you are welcome to take it home), jigsaw puzzles and games. In the warmer months, sit out on the verandah and watch the sunset. Bundanoon village is only a short stroll away. There is a choice of good local cafes, pizza and Chinese within short walking distance. Walk across the station to the old Tudor-style pub for hearty pub food. Explore the many walking trails, such as 'Fairy Bower' or 'Erith Coal Mine' in the Morton National Park (1 km). There is a picnic backpack and rug in the wardrobe and plenty of places in nearby Berrima, Bowral, Fitzroy Falls, Robertson and Mittagong to lay the rug under a tree and watch some kangaroos and maybe even spot a wombat (there are many around). The autumn colours in the Southern Highlands are quite spectacular. Your hosts, Brian and Juanita, live in the residence at the top of the garden, but the cottage is quite private with its own separate access off Victoria St. Complimentary parking on-site. Bundanoon Station is a short walk away, and your hosts will happily transport you and your luggage to/from the station or to the National Park walks. Your baby is welcome (BYO cot). Please note that the property is not suitable for mobile toddlers or children. There are open stairs, a fireplace which could cause serious burns, a garden pond and dogs. We have a minimum 2-night stay, but are happy to accept a one-night stay at short notice (3 days or less). One night stays are $290 per night.
