Mid Century Modern Mountain Treehouse Cabin | House in Cloudcroft

Welcome to our mid century modern 1960s cabin retreat - located in the heart of the Village at Cloudcroft - convenient to the center of town and shopping and restaurants, and just 3 miles from the Ski Cloudcroft and convenient to White Sands National Park and other activities in Ruidoso.
The space
You will have the entire 2000+ square foot 1960s built cabin to yourself (with the exception of a couple of locked owner’s storage closets). The cabin sleeps up to 9 adults and 4 children (in bunk beds) comfortably (if you choose to use the sofa sleepers).
Enter the house via the enclosed patio and there is a private room to the right which hosts a queen bed, a twin sleeper sofa, and a full bath with shower and laundry. To the left as you enter the main home you will find a galley style mostly original mid century kitchen (with some minor updating done), a dining room/den combo with a queen sofa sleeper, a cozy living room with vaulted ceilings, and abundant windows which provide treehouse views of the beautiful pine trees. A hallway leads to a completely remodeled bathroom with king bedroom across the wall, as well as a primary bedroom with a remodeled en suite bathroom. Doors from the living room/kitchen lead to large spacious wraparound tiered decks to enjoy the outdoor mountainous surroundings.
Down a small footprint steep spiral staircase from the living room is the bunk room which has two twin bunk beds that are comfortable for children or small adults, and a private bathroom, an electric fireplace, as well as a game table. This room also has a small deck outside of the French doors.
There are three Roku TVs located throughout the spaces, but please use your own login credentials (cable TV is not available). The kitchen is equipped with everything needed to whip up a delicious meal. Dine over a home cooked meal at the dining table with seating for 6 as well as a bar seating for 4. There is also an outdoor dining table to seat 6. Take advantage of the spacious deck. A propane grill is available alongside outdoor furniture.
You will also enjoy complimentary high speed wireless internet, linens, bath towels (equal to the maximum occupancy of the house), pots/pans, dishes, microwave, coffee pot, blender, toaster, TV, washer & dryer, and propane grill. This home will be stocked with a starter set of consumables such as soaps and paper products. Guests are advised to either bring or purchase additional after arrival.
We love sharing our cabin home with you. Our family lives full time in Austin, TX, and we love to visit Cloudcroft as often as we can. The hottest summer month is June and the hottest average temp is a whopping 80ish degrees. Our cabin is on an often shaded hillside, so the temp stays pretty comfortable thru the summer, even without AC! You can't beat that!
Other things to note
WINDOW COVERINGS: The master bedroom/main living/dining and den rooms do not have window coverings (by design) because we wanted to maximize the views from the bedroom and because we wake up with the morning light. This may be a deal breaker for some guests.
HEATING AND COOLING: The cabin does not have central air or heat. The heating in the cabin is a combination of electric fireplaces, electric baseboard heaters, and a propane wall heater in the main space. There is also a wood burning fireplace. In the summer, the outside temperate is typically very temperate and cool at night. We provide floor fans for most rooms which typically maintains a comfortable temperature.
GROCERIES: Nearest grocery store is about 15 miles away, in Alamogordo. Locally the Family Dollar store and Allsups have frozen and pantry items.
WOOD BURNING FIREPLACE: Pick up firewood and fire starter sticks locally at Allsups if you would like to use the fireplace. Please ensure the flue is open (handle should point up and down when open) and also please ensure the screens are closed to prevent stray embers.
PETS: Occasionally we bring our dogs when we stay at the cabin, so if you are allergic to dogs please book with caution.
TRASH: There are no exterior trash cans on the property, please dispose of trash in the city provided dumpsters on the street – just a hundred or so feet from the home.
CLEANING FEE: The cleaning fee covers normal turnover cleaning (e.g. bedding and laundry turn over, surfaces, floors, snow removal, etc.). Additional cleaning fees may be incurred for excessive mess.
PHOTO / VIDEO SHOOTS: Our home is not to be used for photo / video shoots without approval by owners in advance of the reservation and may be subject to additional fees.
WEATHER: We are not responsible for weather changes / delays leading up to and during your reservation. In the event of a storm, our cancellation policy stands.
WINTER SNOW SEASON: The county plows most of the roads, including neighborhood roads when it snows. In winter months, please be mindful of the road conditions and plan your vehicle choice accordingly. We have a driveway plow service that comes every snowfall (of 6 inches or more) to clear the driveway, and a shoveling service to clear major pathways prior to your arrival. Please note that snowfall can continue to accumulate between shoveling service and your arrival. Shoveling service is not provided mid-stay, however we do provide shovels and de-icing salt for your use if necessary. If heavy snowfall happens during your stay and additional shoveling help is necessary, please contact us and we may be able to arrange some assistance for an extra fee. Due to heavy snow accumulation in the area, the decks are not completely cleared and only pathway access is maintained. As always, let us know your needs and we will work to make your stay wonderful! PARKING: available for a maximum of 2 vehicles in the driveway.
INSECTS AND CRITTERS: You might be able to see some wildlife from the cabin. Often groups of elk or deer will come thru and you’ll see them from the deck. It’s so cool! Along with being in the mountains, however, you might see some insects (especially at certain times of the year). Spiders love the cabin in early fall. While we try our best to keep them out, sometimes they can sneak in. Regular pest control does help but you may see an occasional critter.
Our cabin was built in the 1960s and while some updating has been done, it is vintage and we love that about it. The age can come with occasional issues, as with any old house. Please notify us if you have any issues during your stay and we will try our best to make your stay comfortable.
