Our beautiful house is on 40 treed acres next to Mt. Maxwell Provincial Park. This is a place to feel at home and relax into the silence. Enjoy dramatic ocean views or walk into a cathedral of towering trees in the adjacent park.
Natural light is everywhere: Living, dining, and bedrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding-glass doors onto private balconies. The house is on top of a hill at 1,250 ft, so you can watch the sun rise in the east and set in the west.
Off the living/dining room is the deck, with patio dining-set, umbrella, and Adirondack chairs.
The West-Coast architect-designed home was planned for casual leisure: up-scale but not formal.
The breakfast area is on the main floor, an open-concept area with large windows, and three sets of sliding-glass doors opening onto the wrap-around deck and the panoramic views. Breakfast s self-catering, with artisan bread, butter, granola, milk, cheese, fruit, yogurt, coffee and tea, much of it sourced locally.
On the lower level are three bedrooms--you can rent one, two, or all three. The largest bedroom, The Mr. Baker Room, has a king-sized bed, sitting area with 2-seat couch , and floor-to-ceiling picture window overlooking the ocean, islands and mountains, plus sliding-glass doors on either side opening to a private deck. The 2-seat couch opens into a second bed.
The Fulford Harbor bedroom has a Queen bed, The Coast Mountains bedroom has two twin beds. All bedrooms have their own entrance and key, and full, ensuite bathroom with bathtub and shower. They all have sliding-glass doors that open to their own private deck, with chairs overlooking the ocean and mountains.
The house sits on a hill-top at an elevation of 1,250 feet, and is adjacent to Mr. Maxwell Provincial Park. The area is ideal for hiking, and the park has miles of well-marked walking trails. However, the area is hilly, and on both our property and in the park are some steep slopes and uneven terrain, so proper care must be taken, as on any hilly, forested land.
The house is on 40 acres in a private, rural part of Salt Spring Island, but only 15 minutes drive to the town of Ganges. It has spectacular 180º views of the southern Gulf Islands, the Burgoyne Valley, the Coast Mountains, Mt. Baker, and the Olympic Range. Only two or three other properties on Salt Spring Island enjoy such a panoramic view.
Salt Spring is the largest and most populated of the 200 Gulf Islands between Vancouver and Vancouver Island. At 27 km (17 miles) long and 14 km (9 miles) wide, Salt Spring is 185 square km (74 square miles), about the size of Hong Kong Island and three times the size of Bermuda or Manhattan. It takes 45 minutes to drive from top to bottom.
