Machair Cottage is a remote holiday home resting in Port nan Long near Lochmaddy, on the Isle of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides and can sleep four guests in two bedrooms.

Town: The village of Lochmaddy is the terminus for the daily ferry linking it to Uig on the Isle of Skye and it is also the main centre of population for the island of North Uist. Lochmaddy has good facilities and services including a selection of hotels serving fresh local produce in their dining rooms. A visit to the award-winning museum and arts centre located in the centre of Lochmaddy is a must, and there is also a tourist office full of information about local events and places to visit. The road south of Lochmaddy will lead you to the village of Carinish some 10 miles away and if you continue on this road you can cross the causeway to the island of Benbecula. The town of Balivanich in Benbecula offers shops, post office, a bank, restaurant, a petrol station and an airport, from which car hire can be arranged. The causeway from Benbecula then leads onward to the island of South Uist.

Summary: Machair Cottage was a lovely cosy home from home for the week. Modern, bright and kitted out with everything you may need. Lovely log burner & excellent shower. Great to find such a nice dog friendly let with a decent sized secure dog friendly garden too. The property owners Caroline & Donald were fantastic hosts. We’d have no hesitation in recommending this as a place to choose.
