Welcome to Chez Furet, our beautiful second home in the Maritime Charente region of France. A former Cognac distillery, it has been tastefully but sympathetically updated to provide modern living in a period property for your exclusive use. With five bedrooms including two en-suite shower rooms, family bathroom with bath and shower, cloakroom, a large kitchen and utility, two lounges and a dining room, Chez Furet comfortably sleeps 11 people plus double sofabed and cot. Offering a great opportunity for friends and family to come together. Set in over an acre of grounds there is a football pitch-sized rear garden, parking for four cars, and even a meadow full of wildlife! Most importantly there is a large, private pool with a terrace - perfect for sunbathing in the area of France with the most hours of sunlight outside the Riviera! MAKE A SPLASH ​ The pool is open from April to October with plenty of sun loungers, relaxing outdoor furniture and lilos to help you enjoy the pool and terrace. We also provide some outdoor games to help you enjoy the rear meadow. Additionally, Chez Furet is equipped with plenty of dining furniture, barbeques and a chiminea to help complete the outdoor living experience. You can pop into nearby Barbezieux (just 10 minutes way) for everything from wine to cheese to cognac! You'll find all the major supermarkets nearby including Intermarche, Lidl and Leclerc. ALL THE MOD CONS ​ The property has been extensively renovated to provide modern living while retaining many period features. Downstairs there is a large studio apartment with en suite bathroom which can sleep up to four; and upstairs there is a large en suite master bedroom with a super king-size bed, a large family room (king size and single bed) with cloakroom, as well as a standard double room and a further flexible kingsize or twin which are both served by a family bathroom with wet room-style shower and a spacious sunken bath. Downstairs there is a large lounge with FreeSat (yes, English TV!) recorder, Xbox 360 and two controllers, and a DVD player; a dining room which seats 12, and a large kitchen with two sinks, dishwasher, hob, oven, microwave and two large fridge/freezers; utility room with washing machine, ironing facilities and additional fridge and freezer. We also have a bright and airy double-height day lounge with mezzanine above the kitchen. There are log burning stoves in the studio and main lounge, ideal to curl up in front of outside of the summer months, and the whole property can be central heated. Wifi is also available if you really can’t cope without social media or work! A GREAT BASE TO EXPLORE THE AREA Chez Furet is located a few minutes from the N10 dual carriageway connecting Bordeaux with Poitiers (and from there the A10 motorway to Paris). It is in the middle of a triangle of airports with Bordeaux to the south, La Rochelle to the Northwest and Limoges to the Northeast. You will find the beautiful mid-Atlantic coast to the West featuring Archacon, Royan and La Rochelle; Saintes, Cognac and Angouleme to the North; Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, Limoges and the Limousin National Park to the East; and the magnificent Bordeaux to the South. Hire a bike, take a boat or take to the road - there is so much to see and enjoy less than 90 minutes away. We are located in wine country surrounded by acres and acres of the vines used to produce some of the the world's finest brandies including Rémy Martin, Martell, Baron Otard and Hennessy, as well as the liqueur Pineau de Charentes. A trip to the ancient town of Cognac is a must. You will find plenty of wine tours starting in Bordeaux, covering both the Medoc region (where the grapes for the Bordeaux red are grown) and Saint-Emilion.
