Watassa Retreat: Located on 60 acres with frontage on the Big South Branch of the Pere Marquette River-a designated scenic river. Nature trails extend in all directions from the lodge. Most likely, hikers will never encounter another human, only wildlife. With the nearest neighbor two miles distant and completely surrounded by the Manistee National Forest, you've achieved the closest you ever will to total seclusion. The large home is well suited for family retreats, corporate retreats, or hunting/fishing expeditions. INSIDE THE HOME The lodge consists of 8 bedrooms and 5 full bathrooms. Public areas consist of a large gathering room with a beamed ceiling, wood-burning fireplace, generous seating area, pool table, shuffleboard, and foosball table. An open configured kitchen, dining room, living room will seat up to 17 guests for dining. Porches include a screened porch and an open upper balcony porch overlooking the river, a great spot to observe eagles and ospreys. There is an expansive porch surrounding the gathering room with panoramic views of the surrounding nature. Please Note: There is no internet service available at this home. SLEEPING The unit sleeps 16. All bed and bath linens are provided. There is a standard drip coffee maker along with a coffee bean grinder. There is seating for up to 17 guests in the main dining area and an additional dining table in the gathering room. A side porch off of the screened porch has a Green Egg Grill that uses lump coal for barbecuing. PARKING There is plenty of parking on the property to accommodate. THE LOCATION: The property was originally the site of a logging camp dating to the 1880s. The bridge, which allows for access to both sides of the river, was built to allow for a narrow-gauge railroad to service the logging camp. The Pere Marquette River system is known for its trout fishing in the spring and salmon fishing in the fall – recognized as some of the best fishing in Michigan. The surrounding Manistee National forest is home to deer, turkey, grouse, bear, porcupine, bobcat, and many other species indigenous to Michigan. The forests of mixed hardwoods and pine trees are carpeted with ferns and wildflowers. Stargazing is spectacular because there is no light pollution. Located an hour from two great skiing resorts. Miles of snowmobile trails are accessible from the lodge. It is completely private with a two-mile drive in from Walhalla Road. Located just 30 minutes from Ludington. Ludington has shopping, restaurants, beaches & sightseeing opportunities, as well as Mason County Airport and Ludington Municipal Marina. CANCELLATION POLICY Cancellations will be refunded if canceled 30 days or more before check-in. Any cancellations within 30 days of check-in will not be refunded. There are no refunds for early departures, reduction of nights rented, or delayed arrivals due to inclement weather or any other factor.
