Casa Gabitere is located in the historical center of San Miguel de Allende on Callejon Blanco, a charming, residential street four block west of the Jardin, San Miguel's central plaza, that includes some of San Miguel's most beautiful homes. This elegant and graceful home consist of three separate, two story structures, all connected by arched, covered walkways. From the street, the visitor enters the property through an iron entry gate and then passes through two large, arched wooden doors into a long vine covered, mosaic/tiled passageway that opens onto the first of two lush courtyards within the walls of the compound. A Large mesquite tree, over 200 years old, shades the fron courtyard and its cascading fountain wall covered with boungainvillea. One enteres the house through large ironwork glass doors that open into a soft-toned, arched-ceiling foyer, softly lighted by a large iron chandelier suspended from the center of the arch. To the right of the foyer is the sala Principal , or main living room, with a marble fireplace at the far end of the room. On each side of the room, two sets of French doors open to the front courtyard on one side and the pool on the other. To the left of the foyer are a powder room, a light space for art, and a large storage closet. Beyond the foyer through another matching pair of iron and glass doors is a covered walkway that border's the blue-tiled pool and its carved cantera limestone fountain on two sides. On the opposite side of the pool from the first building is the outdoor sala, a covered terrace with a large seating area in front of a wood-burning fireplace that opens onto a lovely view of the pool. This cute and nice-seized pool, is equipped with a heating system when guests require and is located in the middle of main court yard. It is a very nice feature of the house, especially for guests coming with families and young children or during the hot months, which cover most of the year!. Heated pools are not as common in San Miguel so this is a nice feature Casa Gabitere has to offer. Continuing down the covered walkway past the outdoor sala is the main library of the house, with hand/carved bookshelves for approximately a thousand book, a cozy work and reading area in front of a fireplace, and French doors that open on one side of the room to the second courtyard in the property , and on the opposite side, onto another fountain and small interior garden. Across from the covered terrace and library and connected by covered walkways is the third building on the property, which houses on the first level a large modern kitchen , a formal dinning room with fireplace and seating room for 7, and an outdoor dinning terrace with its own fireplace and BBQ grill that overlooks the second courtyard. The three bedrooms are all on the second level, reached by a staircase with custom ironwork that leads also to the terrace on the roof of the second building. The master bedroom suite has two large walk/in closets, a mosaic-tiled bathroom, and a comfortable sitting area in front of another fireplace. The master bedroom has a view to the west, with French door on either side of the fireplace opening onto two small Juliette balconies overlooking the second courtyard, with its two story, vine-covered rock wall, center fountain, palm trees, lavender and other flowers. The guest wing of the house is on the second floor of the first building and consist of two more bedrooms, each with its own en-suite, custom-tiled bathroom and fireplace, a common sitting room with television viewing area, and another charming office with French doors opening onto a small balcony overlooking the front courtyard and fountain. One guest bedroom overlooks the front courtyard, the other overlooks the pool. All the bedrooms open onto the second-floor terrace, with its olive trees, bougainvillea, fruit trees, flowers, hummingbirds, fountain and covered seating area. The terrace has magnificent western views all the way to the distant mountains. All of the tile, marble and in-laid stone details throughout the house, especially evident in the walkway floors, bathrooms and kitchen - were crafted by local artisans. The house also has a central sound system with speakers in every room on the first level and on the upper terrace. The house is wired for Hi speed internet connections in the library and office.
