The Space:
Superbly designed to optimise breathtaking panoramas, the property takes in wide expanses of the bay before it reaches the ocean estuary. You can enjoy sunrises over the distant hinterland and a sprinkling of night-lights at this residence which is discretely tucked away from the street at the end of a private driveway and perched dramatically on cliffs above the water.
Within keeping of its elegant cement rendered Mediterranean façade, it has been crafted in crisp whites and terracotta and wrapped in terraces with wrought-iron balustrades.
Showcasing a sweeping open floor social and entertaining zone alongside an open plan kitchen with floor-to-ceiling views over the bay where you can kick back and watch the boats, yachts and cruise ships roll in or keep a lookout for pods of dolphins.
It includes a living area with a three-seat lounge and a big comfy arm chair aimed at the TV , sitting room by the window with multiple seats, bayside dining room with an eight-seat timber table plus a sleek stone kitchen with gas cooktop, microwave and dishwasher.
Glass French doors open out to spectacular sunlit riverside terraces and a level spread of garden that is landscaped in Mediterranean themes and features an outdoor table setting, garden seating and a fire-pit.
The accommodation comprises three bedrooms, two on the upper level with spectacular bayside balcony, the main bedroom with a queen bed and second with two king singles. The third bedroom is on the entry level and contains a double bed. The main bathroom upstairs is brand new and is sleek and contemporary while the second bathroom is styled in white and terracotta.
Additional features include heated flooring on the entry level, internal laundry with washer and plenty of onsite parking.
Managed by a specialist Airbnb company, it is professionally cleaned after each guest vacated and all the sheets and bedding is maintained by a contract linen supplier.
Guest Access:
Guests have full use of the home. There is a locked off storage/studio area adjacent to the property however this won't affect your enjoyment of the property.
The Neighborhood:
Hushed away with only the whispers of the river lapping the shore below breaking the silence, it provides a sanctuary of seclusion with a myriad of attractions only a short breath away.
Step out the door and its only 100m to Cartwright Reserve where the Truganini Track climbs steadily uphill through natural forest to the Mt Nelson Signal Station 2.1km away. Taking less than 2 hours to complete, the Signal Station at the summit offers panoramic views extending south to Bruny Island and Betsy Island and east towards South Arm and the Tasman Peninsula. Looking north, Hobart is framed beautifully between the trees and along the way you may spot wombats, wallabies or the local Paddy Melons (small kangaroos).
Long Beach is just two minutes up the road at Sandy Bay and an eclectic mix of shops, cafes and restaurants including the highly-rated Sea Grass Café on the Derwent (keep an eye out for dolphins or the local seal) and Beach House Café plus local favourites Hearty Wok, Ming Court and Sandy Bay Wood fired Pizza. There’s also an IGA supermarket, butchers and newsagency. The twilight markets are another highlight, open every Friday from October to March at Sandy Bay, its where locals and tourists alike flock for the fresh local natural produce and gourmet delights to a backbeat of live music.
The adjoining bayside village of Taroona is worth a look with its historic c1870 ‘Shot Tower’ which was once the tallest building in Australia for four years. Today you can pop in for free, learn its history and climb the internal stairs to the top. The beautiful Kingston Beach and Kingston Golf Course are a few minutes further down the coast from Taroona, and it’s only a short drive to Mount Wellington with its breathtaking views over Hobart, the Derwent River and beyond. Hobart’s CBD is only a 10 minute drive up the road where parking is cheap and plentiful and there’s a host of things to do and see with attractions such as the legendary Salamanca Market and eatery scene, cosmopolitan restaurants and wine bars, Constitution Docks and ferries to MONA.
Getting Around:
To fully enjoy the area and southern Tasmania we recommend you have a vehicle. We can provide our vehicle (pictured) via Uber car share on request. The car is available for guests only and you will need to book through Uber car share. If you wish to use public transport there is a regular bus service along Sandy Bay Road to the City Centre.
Other Things to Note:
There are a steep set of stair that go down to the waters edge. Please note that going down these stairs is at your own risk. There is a sign indicating this at the top of the stairs. If you do decide to walk down the stairs be very careful.
A camera is installed on the external entry of the house near the front door for security, not to monitor guests.
Firewood for the fireplace is provided in Winter only.
