Step into a timeless place where the magnificent natural surroundings are beautifully matched and enhanced by this stately, elegant and very comfortable and luxurious lakefront mansion of the old-world style. Featuring 3 bedrooms, each with a private bath, each wing of the mansion features breathtaking views of beautiful Horseshoe Lake, a large, recreational lake just 30 miles from Memphis, Tennessee. The home sits on several acres of luscious wooded grounds with stately Bald Cypress trees along the bank of the lake, giving the home its singular character. The Snowden House, built by one of the founding families of Memphis, is the oldest residence on Horseshoe Lake and features many architectural details including a grand marble-floored entrance with a sweeping staircase, a fan window highlighted the antique crystal chandelier, a Carrera marble fireplace and three-panel gilded mirror over the fireplace, all heirlooms from one of the original family homes in Memphis. All of the formal living areas are on the second floor in the style of antebellum Louisiana-style plantation homes along the Mississippi river. Three sets of French doors open out from the formal living room which features 12 + foot high ceilings and signature cove lighting from its beautifully molded soffets, onto the spectacular screened porch which affords a sweeping view of the lake through ivy-patterned wrought iron. There is a large, formal dining area, as well as a more casual breakfast and lunch porch completely surrounded by windows looking out over lake and woods – perfect for lounging away the afternoon, watching the birds and the sparkling waves of the lake. There is a live-in kitchen that is shared with the owner and is available for preparation of simple meals, as well as a charcoal grill for outdoor cooking. And the more casual downstairs area is great for relaxed family get togethers with easy access to the beautiful Horseshoe Lake, which, at one time, was an arm of the mighty Mississippi. During the summer months a pontoon boat is available upon request for an additional charge, as the lake is ideal for family gatherings and enjoying a full range of water-related recreation. Wonderful picnics under the full canopy of the great oak trees on the bank are a big favorite throughout the summer, as the breeze off of the lake keeps the outdoors pleasant throughout the summer. During fall, winter and spring seasons, the home is a favorite for lovers of wildlife, fishing, bird watching, canoeing, or just building a nice fire and enjoying the tranquility of such an elegant yet comfortable setting. The master bedroom on the second floor and facing the lake, features a state-of-the-art memory foam topped king bed, upholstered headboard, hardwood floors with comfortable wool area rug. The master bath is your own private marble-lined spa with a sumptuously deep marble-decked 6' long, deep bath with your own private view of the lake, while the marble lined shower sports 6 Kohler shower tiles plus a wonderful, Grohe overhead shower spout. Step out onto the heated travertine marble floor and seep yourself in the luxury of this lakeside master bath. There are two more bedrooms on the second floor, each with their own private bath and views of the lake. The third floor is occupied by your hostess and is completely separate from the main parts of the house. On the ground floor, guests enjoy a more casual atmosphere where they enjoy a large screen TV, a library bar with a large table for games and other gatherings on rainy days, and men's and ladies' dressing rooms where guests may change into their bathing suits and have outside access to the lake. On the west end of the property is a private pier with chaise lounge chairs and sun umbrella for sunbathing and enjoying the view, a perfect spot for a swim on a warm summer day! PLEASE NOTE: the owner lives in her private quarters on the third floor of the home.
