LAKE OSCAWANA LAKEFRONT, JUST ONE HOUR FROM NYC! Lake Oscawana surrounds three sides of the Rock the House stands on. The freshewater lake is 2.5 miles long, stream- and spring-fed, hidden in the Hudson Highlands. This unique site ensures privacy, perfect views and immediate access to the lakeshore. Built in the Roaring Twenties as a summer retreat. Bringing the house into the 21st century, we maintained its original simple camp feeling but with all modern amenities. Guided by our architect and a local contractor, a hand-picked team installed modern plumbing, central heating, central air conditioning and a custom kitchen. Three bedrooms offer a king-size and two queen-size beds, the master bedroom opens directly onto the full-length screened porch. From the parking area below, the House on the Rock may be accessed by either of the two sets of steps in the photos. Tucked away in the hills of the Hudson Highlands, near the Fahnestock State Park section of the Applachian Trail, Lake Oscawana is quiet and secluded. Watch the sunset from the porch, then settle down to sleep in the cool, the quiet, the freshness of the lake air that are a spa treatment straight from nature herself. In the morning, have coffee or breakfast in the great room or on the porch, watching the wild birds at the feeder while deciding whether to swim, canoe or row from the foot of the rock to explore the lake or to sunbathe on the raft moored below the rock. When you decide to venture away from the lake, you will find that it lies un-noticed at the center of an enormous variety of activities, including antiquing, art shows, art museums, concerts, historic houses, State Parks, summer theatre, West Point, - all this and New York City is still just an hour away.
