Janie's Cottage, formerly the home of Janie Pender, lies in the pretty back-lanes at the heart of Mousehole Village, perched above the renowned Tyley Gallery - one of Mousehole's many art galleries. Once a busy fishing port, the harbour is now a picturesque sandy beach, protected from the wind and waves by ancient granite harbour walls with their own historic Pilgrim's Steps. It is a haven for sunbathing, paddling, swimming and sailing. Janie's Cottage has 3 bedrooms. A double, a twin and a single. All have lovely views of the village, with the main bedroom looking out across rooftops to St Clements Island and Mounts Bay. From here seals, dolphins and basking sharks have all been observed. There is a bathroom upstairs with a bath and a shower. Towels and bed linen are all provided. Downstairs is an open plan kitchen dining and living space with a fully equipped kitchen. A Bose radio/cd player, fibre optic broadband and BT Televison are all available, but can remain hidden in a cupboard if preferred. The village has a number of excellent pubs, cafes and restaurants: The Ship Inn is a lovely old traditional village pub with food live entertainment. The Old Coastguards has a bar and dining rooms which overlook lawned gardens lined with palm trees and St Clements Island. 2 Fore Street has an excellent menu and lovely garden. Hole Foods Deli and Cafe has amazing coffee, wines and a fresh food counter as well as meals served at the table. The Rock Pool is great for tea and cakes and sits on a cliff above a natural swimming pool. There is also a village shop and post office on the harbour front open 7 days a week, for milk and eggs, newspapers, logs and other essentials. From Mousehole you can walk up Raginnis Hill and join the coast path to Lamorna, or in the other direction the coastal cycle path takes you to Newlyn and Penzance. There is an independent art house cinema in Newlyn and two excellent fish restaurants. Ben Tunnicliff's Tolcarn Inn and Mackerel Sky. Between Newlyn and Penzance there is a Lidl Supermarket and Penzance has Tesco, Morrison and Sainsburys supermarkets. Both Newlyn and Penzance have Co-ops. Trains from Paddington, Plymouth and Exeter, and cross country from the North of England, arrive at Penzance station. From there it is ten minutes by taxi to Mousehole and there are also regular buses from the station. Daily scheduled flights to Cornwall arrive at Newquay Airport. There are lots of excellent surfing beaches around the coast. St Ives and the Tate Gallery are just 14 miles away. Mousehole has firework displays in the Harbour on November the 5th and New Years Eve. The famous Mousehole Harbour Lights are switched on in mid December and remain in place until the first week of January. Other popular village events are Tom Bawcocks Eve - and of course Halloween.
