Idlehour Estate is a 21-acre haven of nature, history and inspiration. You find yourself at the gateway of quaint towns and the expanse of the Appalachian Mountains with all its trails, views, flora, fauna, rivers and lakes. Idlehour Estate is carefully laid out across several special venues. As you enter the 1,000-foot-long driveway, you notice the sloping park-like land to your left. It is open to you to explore with your family and dogs and accessible via three dedicated gates. As you travel down the driveway, Idlehour House will appear on the left. Welcome home! As you pull up the circular driveway, you will notice a generous carport on the right of the house. The 4,100 sqf house was built in 2006 and is a resurrection of an 1850 Pennsylvania and a 1900 Tennessee chink and log home. This style of house could be found in the 1800’s across the Appalachian Mountains. As there were no sawmills able to cut straight, self-sealing logs for walls, a clay (chink) and roughhewn log was used to build these special homes. Idlehour House features all the most modern amenities while you are transported into a historic home, and tranquil spirit of the Appalachian Mountains. The owners have had custom furniture commissioned throughout their home alongside modern and antique designs. The walls contain no art, so as to appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of the chink and log construction. The house stretches across three floors. You enter into the main room of a 1900 Tennessee home, rebuilt beam by beam on this site. A large stone chimney with a wood burning cast iron stove bookends one side of the room while a modern, commercial, open floor plan kitchen bookends the other. The ceiling throughout the main floor is reclaimed from a 1900 Georgia schoolhouse, kept with its original paint. Adjacent to the kitchen is a mud room with its own entrance, perfectly situated for returns from a hike or to let the dog in. Through the kitchen, along a corridor with a guest bathroom, you enter the 1850 Pennsylvania cabin. It houses one of the three king size bedrooms and an ensuite bath with a claw-foot tub. The bedroom opens onto the L-shape balcony that wraps the south facing part of the house, overlooking the vineyard and the mountains in the distance. The upper level of Idlehour House is a refuge on its own. A large master bedroom with stunning views, a two-person claw-foot tub and exposed reclaimed wood beams. The bedroom connects to a master bath, a butler pantry with a refrigerator and a Keurig coffee machine. For those wishing to treat the getaway as a workation, a dedicated office, with intimate sloped roof line and its own balcony is part of this self-contained floor. The historic houses were erected in 2006 on a terrace level opening onto a vast, levelled lawn, ideal for various outdoor games which are all provided. This levels centerpiece is a stunning family room, with a 50-inch TV with the massive former fireplace as a backdrop, shuffleboard table, a Peloton bike and a dedicated, two-zone wine fridge as part of a wet bar. The third king bedroom, featuring a canopy bed, is part of an integrated family suite connecting to a large bathroom and a purpose built “secret room” featuring a double bunk bed. A family has plenty of space, while they can enjoy games and the expansive views. Stepping onto the vast lawn, a gazebo, erected of reclaimed timber beams, is perched above the vineyard. A perfect spot to enjoy sunset hours and outdoor gatherings. We invite you to explore the entire 21 acres. Wander the vineyard, explore the fields and follow a path through the property on a stroll, or walk with man’s best friend. When you are ready to explore the area, you can reach dozens of walking trails, the Blue Ridge Lake, or the town of Blue Ridge in minutes. Additionally, the luxury of a dedicated helicopter landing site on the Estate and a partnership with Blue Ridge Tours, allows you to view this beautiful part of the country from the air.
