Positive: We were a group of 5 (3 adults and 2 children, aged 4 and 10) and we stayed at El Walaa Riad for six nights. We had an amazing time! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is great - only a 10 minute walk from Jemaa el Fnaa. While it is definitely not on the prettiest street, it is easily accessible within the medina and while also close to Koutoubia, Palace Bahia, the Kasbah and Mellah. The rooms (number 5 and 6) were clean, spacious and comfortable. The AC worked very well. The riad was calm and quiet, although we did hear people move around the chairs on the terrace (right above our rooms) in the morning. The riad offers a shuttle service, which we used on the day of our arrival in Marrakech as well as on the day of our departure. The private transfer costs 15 euros from the train station to the riad. Upon our arrival, the driver was waiting for us in the train station. It went really smoothly both times. The breakfast was delicious and varied slightly from day to day. It was nice to eat it on the terrace before heading out. The pool was a must in the 40+ degree weather and most welcomed to cool off after walking around the city. The riad in itself is beautiful, although a bit more run down than the pictures suggest. Nevertheless, we had an amazing time at El Walaa and would go back in a heartbeat! We did not try the spa/massage/dinner.
Negative: Nothing. We had an amazing stay. For info, we paid by credit card and were charged a 3,5% commission. Although we knew it would be so from the day we booked our rooms (the riad informs you via DM), it is still the only hotel/riad that charged us a supplement.
